BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

Hello All,

I just joined this forum, just bought an E90 320i, just start to look into cars, just everything basically and yes I admit I am a noob :). I had not much interest in cars previously but after getting an E90 I am totally clueless on what needs to be done. LOL.

I need advice because I can tell obviously that my stock standard 16inch rims on the 320 looks totally ugly even my dog would not want to pee on it.

I researched a little on rims around the market and found out that I really like the bmw 162s 18 inch. I want to find out:

1. Can my puny 320 inline 4 take the 18 inch rims?
2. I don't want a harsh ride so what profile tyres should I go for
3. How much approx. reduction in power if I stick on these 18 inchers?
4. Also, are these very heavy rims?

Please advise.. thank you all the bmw sifu.

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

1. Can my puny 320 inline 4 take the 18 inch rims?
ans. of course it can...no problemo

2. I don't want a harsh ride so what profile tyres should I go for
ans. 18 in ride is still quite comfortable, don't you worry much. You are driving a bimmer, not the first model Proton Saga

3. How much approx. reduction in power if I stick on these 18 inchers?
ans. You will lose a bit on the pick up and braking but u wanna look good and have a better handling.., u gotta pay something...fair n square

4. Also, are these very heavy rims?
ans. They look heavy to me. I m guessing about 10.5-11kg
FYI, these 162 are staggered wheels

Gd Luck

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

Thanks TripleM. What do you mean by staggered rim?

If the 162s are heavy, any other recommendation? I am totally open to any other rim brand/models

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

I have a used set of OEM m3 18' wheel for sale if you are interested.

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

Staggered means
the front n back rims are different in width
in this case it's 8J and 8.5J so the tires specs will be slightly different too.

If u want light rims, strong and $ no issue...u may wish to look for some Forged Japanese rims.

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

or you can go to Leong Seng and look up the OZ Ultraleggeras- could be one of the lightest rims ard. on my last visit, they mentioned it can fit the E90s. good luck.

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

Thanks for all the advice. Ahbengdriver, so I guess 19inch is also ok for 320 huh?

The 162s are 18inches and I think it's a little too small since the rear wheel arch is so damn big. This car is meant for 19".

Now that 162s are too small, I'm still deciding which 19inch to get. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Maybe I should bring my canine to the rim shop and see which one he pees on.. :)

Agree Agree wif Ah Beng 19" r the way to go for the E90. The wheel arch is juz too big for the 18" la; also, u will actually feel more comfortable after changin to 19" mainly due to the hard run-flats 16" that PML gives u.....

I also like u short while ago; then I PM Ah Beng, ask him some qns, then bingo, my E90 320IA kenna the dog pee 19". bt i not mata like Beng, so bot AC type IV replicas....cheap cheap.

Cheers

Re: BMW E90 320 Rim Need Advice

Well I got the BBS CH 18" and in my opinion it looks alright. It is definitely more comfortable at 18 " non-runflats. However, I did put in a 10mm spacer in the rear to bring the rim out a little. Got it at South East Tyres. But if you want forged and light, Leong Seng has a couple from Prodrive and Volk Racing BUT pretty ex. Have fun shopping.
