Hi folks, Yesterday my F30 low engine oil lit up and ask me to top up 1 litre of engine oil whenever possible. The servicing is still 4k km away. I called the service centre and they state that there is no service required, ask me to monitor the situation for a week. I topped up with engine oil AECD A3/B3 category(checked with owners manual) with 0w50 which i found in Esso since its the nearest to me. I saw some articles saying that BMW will "eat" up engine oil per 1000miles. Do this happened to you often?

0-50w is too thick from all that I have read.

0-20 best or 0-30w is the max. For your f30 should be either the n13 or n20 or b38
the oil loss is due to some leak.
go should check for

1) leaks - oil filter or valve cover or oil sump
2) valve stem seal
3) PCV valve - should be on engine cover

I never follow. indicator
Change oil at 7000km.
This engine needs good oil to run well. Many things depend on oil on this superb engine. Vanos and turbos too.

Thanks Clemgoh.

For convenience sake and it do seems that i need to top up the engine oil urgently, i just bought this engine oil from the nearest petrol station. I did refer to the owner's manual for the right quality oil to use and also the bottle did state the right quality ACED A3/B3. I learnt my lesson now...purchasing 2 bottles of Castrol Edge Professional LL01 5W-30 Titanium FST (BMW) engine oil and keeping it in my boot :D
