A world premiere at the Geneva Auto Show for this new BMW biturbo engine.
This engine has a basement entirely made in aluminium, with direct High Precision Injection and two small turbochargers (a first for a 6 inline engine) and is the new top of the line inline-6 from BMW.
Power output is a more than respectable 306 hp, the torque is a more impressive 400 Nm. Compared to the 3.0i engine on which it is based, that's 41 hp and 85 Nm more. What is really impressive is the rotation range in which the maximum torque is available, from 1,500 rpm to 5,800 rpm, with a redline at 7,000 rpm.
BMW says that particular attention was given to the avoidance of turbo lag, to weigt containment and to the engine's efficiency.
According to BMW, a 3 Series with this engine would gain ½ a second in the 0-100 km/h sprint and almost 2 seconds from 80-120 km/h.
