BMW 125i engine

Hi guys i understand the 125i is using a 3L N53 engine producing 220hp. If it is the exact same engine in the 630i 272hp, would be be possible to tune the 125i power up to 272hp?

630i could be N52B30?

Re: BMW 125i engine

You referring to the n52 engine not n53 correct ?

I think the lower variants are de-tuned ......

Bro, consider this basics. Tuning up NA* with big Hp/Nm figures (e.g. 220-to-272, a 52hp gain) is not as easy as FI* rides.

The 125i 3L N53 being a NA and not force induction, it is not possible to tune it to 272hp unlike her muscled-up sisters 135i or 1M.

To bring up her figures up to 272hp, you have to consider many internal parts like: Cams, Conrod, Pistons, Mapping, Engine Cooling management, A/F ratio, etc (alternatively, is lup a turbo in and remap but careful with the engine cooling management).

Bluntly, please shelf the idea unless you intent to go the route shown in para-3.

* NA = Normal Aspirated / FI = Force Induction

Lastly pardon my bluntness, I don't like to provide 'false expectation'.

Re: BMW 125i engine

The variants of the n52b30 bore and stroke specs is the same. So it was built for 272hp.

To de-tune it to 220 hp via the sw is what probably happened.

MTL, buy a 125i and ask RBB to code it to 272bhp. Win win...

It is still not just a simple tune up matter e.g. piggy bag or remapping. Internals still need consideration even if bore and stroke spec is the same.

Just IMHO.

Re: BMW 125i engine

Think the entire engine block the same ....... but could be wrong .....

Hearsay its been done via sw already.

Re: BMW 125i engine

If can be tund up via sw, then good for Calvin West :)

130i N52B30 is 265hp...

Re: BMW 125i engine

Guess it could starts at 272 hp and it could step down to 265 or 220 hp ......

So if you could crack the dme sw codes then you could release some potential based on the assumption entire engine block is the same ......

Fierce.....

Re: BMW 125i engine

If cracking the dme is so easy then there will not be so many N52B25 running around as 523, more than half will un-detune to 525 liao.

Re: BMW 125i engine

all the N20 x20i can simply replace x28i DME ... steam ah
