Re: Bluetooth-GPS combi

The other thing you also need to consider is the chipset used in the GPS receiver in the Parrot. The new chipset is something called SiRF 3. What it does is that it acquire the satellites a lot faster, it works well with reflective signals (which is the case for highrise intense Singapore environment) and it is highly sensitive.

I looked up their product page, no mention of what chipset they are using.

There are free Singapore and Malaysia maps availabe in www.malsingmaps.com, however, it only works with Garmin software. If you look under the PDA section, there is a step by step guide on setting up a PDA-BT Receiver combi.

Re: Bluetooth-GPS combi

I was originally thinking of the Nokia Car BT Kit (model 660, I think. THe one that comes with text LCD). It's about $700 in Singapore.

The parrot, with GPS is probably about the same price. It's also colour LCD, as compared to NOkia's B/W. Hence I am very keen to order the PArrot. Only concern is which map software to use. Also, it was featured as meant for PDA. Will it work with a notebook (Windows XP)? I email enquiry to them but did not receive a response. I also posted in the parrot forum pages but nobody has the answer.

Re: Bluetooth-GPS combi

MapleLeaf, if you do get the Parrot, what you need to get the GPS running in your PC are the following:

GPSProxy - PC version
Garmin nRoute

There must be instructions somewhere in malsingmaps to show people how to make it work on PC. I know at least 2 persons who has this setup running already.

They uses Holux instead of the Parrot though.

Re: Bluetooth-GPS combi

What is this hands free thing with the Parrot? Does it function as a handfree phone as well?

From what I can see it is simply a GPS receiver with a LCD display. Whatever the information needed can be displayed on your phone or pda.

Re: Bluetooth-GPS combi

Two functions here. 1) Bluetooth car kit that syn with your bluetooth handphone to create a hands-free phone. (2) GPS system with image show on a smartphone (e.g. SonyEricsson 910 or a PDA)

But it has not been tried in Singapore. i.e which map software can it read?
