Belkin Aircast Bluetooth - short review

I wanted to wirelessly stream music from my phone to my HU, and since there is no built-in bluetooth in my '06 e90 HU, the solution was to look for a bluetooth unit that can plug in via the aux input in the central console.

there are several solution available after some research, cheapest is from dealextreme, for example this and this but they are not really tailored to be used in the car. For example some of these cheap bluetooth devices cannot be charged and used at the same time.

Finally narrow down to these two devices, the belkin aircast auto and the griffin bluetrip. griffin bluetrip is very small and compact with a short wire that plugs into the aux port, perfect for the e90 central console config. but the belkin offers a built-in usb port which makes life alot easier for the garmin/iphone/nokia - made the plunge for the belkin today.

Not as small as the griffin but still very compact. Set my HU to aux-in, plugged the belkin and not before long, my nokia discovered the belkin and was connected soon after. Im not an audiophile but the quality is similar to my MP3-discs to my ears. Works as advertised and everything hidden in the central console with the nokia sitting in my pocket. I'm a happy man :)

hi... So when you talking via the bluetooth, are the sound coming from your car speakers? Is it clear and stable?

No, aircast connect doesnt use blutooth, it connects to your phone via an wire before routing it to your HU.

Link for aircast auto.

Yes everything is via the car speakers. Havent had any signal dropout so far. But when theres an imcoming call, the unit acts as your microphone (which means placement of the unit in the central armrest isnt optimal).

If this offers A2DP music streaming as well as handsfree phone functions, it will be a device worth looking at. Btw, is it voice-dialling capable for phone calls?

Re: Belkin Aircast Bluetooth - short review

I dont use voice dial but it does support it if your phone offers this function

Hi All,
Just to share. I installed a iphone / ipod cable to my e60's HU thru AUX and i got a bluetooth device called "Blue Stream" which i plug it to the cable and I can connect to my iphone and play music from there. It basically receives the bluetooth signal from the iphone.
Size of that device is only abt 30mm by 45mm and weighs less than 1g. it cost me S$120.00

:)

Looks like everybody has their own way to enable music streaming and bluetooth calling in their rides. No need pay high prices from PML for these things to happen.
