Battery relacement need any coding

Hi,

Does changing of the car battery need any coding? Recall seeing a post that say it is needed. Went to Arrow tyres was quoted $180 for a Amaron 74A battery but was told he has not heard of any coding needed hence need 2nd opinion. On the other hand M&Q quoted around $260-$280+ with coding brand not sure. For original BMW battery it will cost $450-$480+ from PML. Any recommendation?

Re: Battery relacement need any coding

What is the battery brand for m&q, and at pml?

Its hard to make any comparisons if not apple to apple. Original battery is the best, though expensive.

There is a way to change battery without coding, is to use a secondary source to power the internal battery same time the swap is happening. This means not cutting power and reseting some settings.

The coding is also to "register" the new battery in the car for better power management. Good to have, not mandatory. Can also do subsequently.

Any workshop with Auto Logic device can re calibrate the battery for u.

Re: Battery relacement need any coding

The idea is not to re-calibrate the battery.........

Assuming this is for the E series - You are suppose to work on the DME for the registration and CAS / FRM for the coding. The F or I series is a totally different ball game .......

The histogram needs to be cleared as well.

Doesn't matter what tool is used - as long as the WS can do all of the above and have the stats to show its been done..............

Thanks for sharing this, thou I don't really understand most of the terms.

I did my battery re-calibration when I changed my battery last year.

They simply used the auto logic device and reset it in a few moments. Seems to be a very simple process to me.

Please get the workshop whom has the auto logic device and is conversant with the usage of the device to do the calibration for you.

We are not seeking the person to race, just basic driving where the driving license qualifies the person to be road worthy.

To re-calibrate the battery seems to be a very simple process where most workshop with the auto logic should be able to perform.

Should u have doubts about the person doing the re-calibration, change to someone else.

The thread starter simply just wants to know need to don't need to re-calibrate his new battery after installation, the answer is yes.

Please do so when able to.

Instead of "re-calibrate" use "register" as what Meek taught.
Seems like you still dun get what the fellow posting before me talking about.

Not everyone use Autologic, its the process not the equipment.

I had my battery changed by BMW Mobile Service because the battery was totally flat. It was an original BMW battery and it cost me around $320 (can't remember exactly). After replacing the battery, the tech did some calibration and registration. A 45min job.
