Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

A yellow battery shape indicator came on few times lately, goes off after a while. about 2 year ols liao.

Checked the manual which says either:
- battery charge is low ( so drive it to charge!)
- battery aged and needs replacement.

Called PML and they say must do a full diagnostic check on my car to see what is draining the battery:( . Am contemplating as my 335 is full of 'foreign matter'. Diagnostic liao wait they say this and that>>>>warranty void.

So just changed battery outside and forget it, or save $200 and play games with PML?:juggle:

You wanna play games with PML, you gotta know referee is always kayu, unless you are totally clean.

If your car is 0% modded, you can try. Else, waste of time.

Mind you, you have heard even wheels and coilovers can void warranty. Try reasoning with such logic.

aiyah..battery nia cheap stuff...not worth the trouble arguing with them...

even if u did get a change... those bastards take one whole day to change... ur cab fare how much liao...

just go aftermarket lightweight battery

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

whats ur mileage?

was told batt is warrantied for 60,000km or 3 years whichever comes 1st.

if above criteria is met i suggest u go to them.

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

did i hear lightweight battery? hahaha....

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

...

a standard battery should last 2-3yrs. i guess its normal use wear and tear la. however, my san er ling 2 1/2yrs liow still no sign of that batt icon. i did asked PML SE, she said normally last for 3yrs. so i hack care for now.

its the boxes fault, its draining your juice. take out juiced boxes, problem solved.
You are saying the Juice Box drained the battery?

wow....u r so daring to post such statement....:shoot:

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

What's the current draw on the battery, if not from the ECU direct, you'd reckoned?

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I reckoned the piggyback draws power from the ECU than from the battery. When your engine is shut off, the ECU will be shut off, and periodically your ECU will run a check on its own, say once every X hours. Only then the piggyback is powered again. Else, there is hardly any draw of power from the battery.

I also believe that the piggyback is drawing a small amps current from the ECU, too small to cause a drain.

Hence I would love to explore more on acupunch's theory on JuiceBox draining the battery.........

My bone stock car had the same battery problem ABD describes. I sent the car to PML and the CSA gave the some BS story about the power management in modern BMW's. I asked him to check the alternator and battery charge, but he said not necessary (I guess because the car is still under warranty (sarcasm), must wait to be out of warranty so they can make more money).

ask them to do full tests on the car. it might be that some components in ur car r not sleeping when engine is off hence draining batt from ur car. not necessarily batt issue.

i experienced it ocne.

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

Without the gauge, JB3 draws around 15ma peak (yes, ~1/100 of an amp!). With the gauge it's around 150ma peak. Power draw is triggered in tandem with the ECU and hence shuts down within a minute or 2 or ignition off.

No issues here with JB3 affecting battery life.

Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in PML anymore :hmmidont:

if ur warrantied ask them to fix it till its good la. if not den go outside. no point paying for it if its covered

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

They might blame everything from the greenhouse effect to Obama being elected rather than be just straightforward and replace your ailing battery if your car is modded. Why risk raising your blood pressure?

It's also worth noting that standard BMW supplied batteries are non-deep cycle so once they have been discharged for awhile, they can never be recharged back to perfect health unlike marine or competition ICE batteries.

Re: Battery problem - checked with PML and they say...

Am sending car in on Dec-1 for this check.

Stay tuned for PML's BS story on FM Channel-69.96.

Your DJ Chao Ahbeng will be live on air from 9am !!!
