Automatic headlights function

Hmm... have not heard or experienced such a problem on both my cars. I actually do not like this function of the car that much, find it kinda irritating sometimes when driving and the lights come on and off...

yky,

I will email a service bulletin from BMW specifically on this problem to you shortly... its for E60 but the concept would be similiar

Re: Automatic headlights function

Digging up a 6 yr old thread!

I had my auto rain sensing function and auto headlight function not working. Tried to reprogram but did not work.

FInally went to Eng Soon and bought a replacement "Rain and Light sensor" module ($250+) and replaced it myself. This is the module behind the rear view mirror, on the windscreen. By the way for reference, the original module was an older part number, and new one is now updated. I see some design changes in the sensor lens.

Voila! Rain sensing function works!

Unfortunately my auto headlights still do not work! That is... headlights come on when its bright sunny day. Anyone knows where is the light sensor located? I thought it was the same "rain and light sensor" module! And also my Daytime Running Lights (DRL) do not work... I suspect due to the same sensor issue?

Appreciate any help - someone had this issue and rectified before?

You may need to do a software reset for the auto headlights. I had problem with my auto headlight before, the lights will never go off no matter what the ambient condition is. I went to BVO, they plugged in the Autologic diagnostic tool to do some kind of test and since then my auto headlights have been functioning normally.

Re: Automatic headlights function

I had the same problem with my e90 lci. Headlights would stay on even in very bright daylight
When set on auto.It was driving my wife crazy..:p
Send it into pml. They say need to do software settings. They took 2 days to do it - left my car 9am, collected next day 6pm...

Problem is fixed though. Headlights come on when they should(nite/carpark) and off in bright daylight.

This should be a common problem among bmws though as I always notice alot of others bmws with their headlights on in the day :p

Had exactly the same problem on my E90. BVO took about 30 mins to do the necessary tests and reset.

Re: Automatic headlights function

Ye, I experience exactly the same with my e60 LCi. Thought that it is a typical (though irritating) "feature" of Beemers and bear with it until now...

Now, this thread discussion shows there is HOPE~!:juggle:

Any e60 bros had theirs fixed at the workshops ie BOSS?
