Automatic Driving Lights

Just want to check with fellow forumers here as to who uses the automatic driving lights all the time. I'm talking about when you put the lights on "A" and let them turn on and off on their own.

I've noticed it to be way too sensitive on my E92. Sometimes, it's bright outside and I can see the green indicator light. I've also noticed that there's no way to adjust the "sensitivity" of the sensor.

Have decided not to use it as it would mean I'd be driving with the lights on most of the time.

Thanks,

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

I never leave it on A for fear that the ballast will screw up. Besides, the adaptive lights only work on A and i seldom use them unless you are on B roads at night, which we hardly are.

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

I'm totally opposite from Omar! I leave it on all the time. Save me the hassle of turning them on/off.

See too many idiots on the road at nite without their headlights on, oblivious to all around them, signalling to them to turn on their headlights!

If u have Idrive, u can set the sensitivity to LOW. LOW-MEDIUM-HIGH.

Cheers,
Sam

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

huh? you can adjust the sensitivity? i must have missed it when i was 'reading' the manual.
pray tell sam, which sub menu is it under?

cheers!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

Go to your Vehicle Settings > Vehicle/Tires > Lights > Automatic Light Control

You can choose between SLOW, NORMAL and SENSITIVE.

I think that's the one! U can also choose to have your daytime running lights on all the time too. That's what I chose to do. Its automatically on when you start your car.

Cheers!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

I don't have that in my iDrive. Is it a revision somewhere?

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

This is Progman 25, I think. Omar & I should have the same program...

At the main screen, did u push the idrive dial down? It should be the round icon with the "i".

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

I'll try tomorrow, but I didn't have it on the manual which makes me wonder if it;s something they took off.

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

In this car, whatever can be left in auto mode, I will leave it in that mode. Cos Im a lazy man haha. I don find it very sensitive though. It only comes on at the correct time.

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

tried to look for it as per your instructions sam, but it's not an option on my idrive too... looks i have to pay our CSA a friendly visit... just found out he's been transferred, arrrgh!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

I can confirm my E92 built around Oct/Nov. 2007 doesn't have this option in the iDrive. Too bad, wish it would be something I could adjust.

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

+1 ..same here...think its too sensitive...turns on under a overhead bridge at a cloudy 5pm..pass the bridge , off again..lame!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

Cannot have the best of both worlds mah... U see the Lexus or Camry, once they pass under the bridge, their lights turn on and off.

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

Hi,

Does that mean without iDrive, I could not change the sensitivity?

Anyway, I believe only at 'A', upon remote Unlock, then there is 'eagle eyes'.

Like Ridge Racer!!!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

Halo does that mean if I don't have iDrive I can't alter it? My colleagues' Lexus don't turn on in broad daylight and it is embarrassing that my BMW does. It is a useful feature to leave it in auto and let the car decide when to turn lights on:)
I hope someone can clarify

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

Yes this light sensor thing is rather mind boggling to me as well. In "A" mode, main lights seemed to be on even in broad daylight. Don't see this sensitivity setting in iDrive SETTINGS > VEHICLE/TYRES > LIGHT? Do I need a software upgrade?

Btw these are a couple more things I find baffling in iDrive ... just collected my 520 last week ... sure there are iDrive experts out there who can explain better than the owner's manual :)

a) What is daytime running lights?

b) And "Confirmation signals" ie Visual Signal for Locking/Unlocking under VEHICLE/TYRES > DOOR LOCKS

c) Realised the Air Circulation control cannot be permanently set to internal air circulation only ... has anyone accomplished this?

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Automatic Driving Lights

a) when you select daylight running lights, your front auxiliary (usually non-xenon) lights turn on. The purpose is to improve safety ala motorbike must have their front headlights on at all times in SG law... Another thing is that in some foreign countries (e.g. in the US), having this safety feature for your car means that your insurance payments are less.

b) self explanatory really.. adjust the settings and see for yourself at nite. It sets how long the car interior will light up after you unlock or lock the car.

c) yah... i think you're right abt that one.
