LTA will be very diplomatic about the issue and play ping pong with you....
They will tell you YES...its is possible to do it (wah happy like F*** when you hear that). You just need to meet the following critera...
1) conversion must be carried out by authorised mechanic certified by manufacturer
2) After conversion, manufacturer must certify that the vehicle is safe for travelling on the road and it does not compromise any safety issue with the car
Then comes the deadly ping pong serve....
You have to ask the authorise agent to do it.
Then you happy happy call PML...and PML will tell you they will not do it.
There you see....LTA is very good....its your authorised agent that is unable to fullfill your dreams.

Since I'm new to BMWs.. is there ever an auto BMW that doesn't have 'A' or automatic stated in the log card?

Think so. Mine reads:
Body: MOTORCAR (SUNROOF)
Make: B.M.W.
Model: 325CIA COUPE
Colour: Black
And I'm looking at a log card of another 325 SMG 4dr I ever considered buying...
Body: MOTORCAR (SUNROOF)
Make: B.M.W.
Model: 325i
Colour: Black
Doesn't mention auto/manual anywhere else. So... SMG considered manual, and only evidence in the log card is the 'A'.
