I recently sent my car for a bonnet respray and was quoted a certain price, let's say. $800 by X-company. This price was because the ENTIRE Bonnet was to be resprayed and X-company assured me that this had to be done to ensure uniformity of colour and that they had to remove the bonnet for the respray.
Upon collection, I found that previous small stone chips were still on the bonnet and upon further inspection of the bonnet fastenings, it was obvious that the entire bonnet was not removed for the job.
Upon confronting the Manager, he claimed that he also did not know why there were still some stone chips on the bonnet after the respray and said he needed to check with the workfloor personnel what exactly occured. He then apologised and said that he will re-spray the bonnet and would provide me with a standby car for my use.
My observation is: if I did not do a closer inspection, X-company would have effectively got away with charging an exorbitant price for a non-existent job that was supposed to have been done. In my opinion, this is cheating.
