ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Hello all,

From the earlier thread from fellow bro, the right ATF oil for my E90 gearbox type GA6HP19Z is Shell M-1375.4 or BMW # 83 220 142 516.

But the problem is it is only available in 20 litres container from both Eng Soon/PML and those in 1 litres from ZF are not the actual oil retailing at $26 litres.

Thinking of flushing the entire gearbox using 10 litres of original oil, Anyone knows which mechanic has the original oil or want to share with me to get the 20 litres oil (not sure the price though) I was told if just draining and fill up it take 6-7 litres....

Cheers

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Anyone interested to share with me the original ATF oil?? The price is $600 +7% GST for the 20 litres pack so its about $325 for 10 litres to completely flush the gearbox.....

:helpp!:

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Red Line ATF D4 you wan? $18.50 per Quart.

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Hello,

The 1 litres ZF oil is the correct and OEM oil for our gearbox GA6HP19Z if the part no. is the same as below.

BMW Part No for 20Lit : 83 22 0 142 516
BMW Part No for 1Lit : 83 22 0 144 137

refer to this thread: Gearbox oil — BMW accessories catalog

Just make sure EngSoon/Pml are selling the the same part no for the 1 lit as written above. Dun waste time to buy the 20lit, just get 10 x 1 lits will do.

Cheers

Hi,

Eng Soon dont sell tthe 1litres original ATF but only the ZF oil (no stock currently) but the ZF 6HP oil did not mentioned that it is Shell M-1375.4 so really confuse whether the ZF is the same oil.

Confused...

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

The 1 lit ZF oil that Eng Soon is selling is the OEM oil. I know cos i bought and use before. On the ZF oil, they will have a sticker that indicates the part no as mentioned above.

Simply put:

BMW Part No for 20Lit : 83 22 0 142 516 = Shell M-1375.4
BMW Part No for 1Lit : 83 22 0 144 137 = Shell M-1375.4

So long the part no. is either of the above or written Shell M-1375.4, u are safe..

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

OK will check again but the last time I remember the ZF oil state it is Dextron III instead of Shell M1375.4 and no BMW part-no printed.

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

I recall a BMW repair shop called 2 Steer at Blk 51 Ubi ave 1 (tel 67476457) was selling ZF ATF oils. The guy who runs the shop is ex-PML. You may want to check them out.

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Hi Zorro & guys

just trying to help...

Shell ATF M-1375.4 was specially developed for ZF gearboxes. SHELL TRANSMITS FUEL SAVINGS TO ZF

If you have the chance next time, have a look underneath the gearbox. There's a sticker that specifically says BMW part no. 83 22 0 142 516 (lifetime oil) only.

The only workshop I managed to find that sells according to quantity required is Starblack at Portsdown(not a sponsor here). I asked to see the oil before they do the job and the container was indeed imprinted with Shell M-1375.4 with BMW part number as mentioned above.

It is recommended to change the filter and sump pan, and costs quite a fair bit. The condition based service interval is abt 100k miles (160k km). To play safe, half the interval should be good enough, or you may wish to even shorten the interval further according to your requirements.

Hope it helps.
Rgds

I called them up....was quoted $40-$50 per litre and total estimated cost including labour should be around $1000+....wow!!

Re: ATF Oil for E90 -Help

Guys, to replace juz the ATF without the filter only require 4 litres.
To replace the sump and ATF, you require 6.5 to 7 Ltrs.

Many workshop over charge owner on the oil claiming 7 ltrs used :bullshit: juz for the oil charge. :boxing:Absurd!!!

Rule of thumb: 2 oil change and 1 filter replace.
(40K juz oil change)
(80K Both replace)
