Dear all bro ,

Is it anyway that we can improve the wind noise on e60 , I heard quite a lot of review , some said apply 3m soun proofing stripes on door frame , some said do the undercarriage proofing, some said just apply the gummy fledge on door rubber , some even said just forget cos ITS NORML !!!

I am quite frequent travel to Malaysia and the speed quite NORMAL over 140km/h and the wind noise quite NORMAL noticeable all along the highway :errrrrrr:

Re: Anyway to improve wind noise on e60

your want to improve insulation and reduce wind noise ....

if you do sound proofing, make sure it target the right area ... aka wind noise, tyre/road noise, undercarriage/platform, etc

dude, at 140kmh, any car will have wind noise.

if you want less wind noise, so get a lexus (with all due respect).

you can apply sound insulation, but the stuff adds weight to your car (if done properly).

just turn up the radio and enjoy the drive...

My car got wind noise, tyre noise, exhaust noise, the whole car is like freaking noisy. Oh, also got a kid screaming also.
But I very enjoy the daily journey.
I guess > 140 is a different story (I never reach that speed before) so I hope TS finds his solution. Good luck bro.

After I changed to M Mirrors, there was a noticeable lack of wind noise.... but its a $3k 'upgrade'

My 5 cents' worth of views...

Sound proofing will somehow reduce wind noise but don't expect drastic reduction. Sound proofing is meant to improve surround sund of your speakers by reducing vibration. This will somehow help in reducing wind noise. However, don't waste $$$ to sound proofing your entire car. I once spent more than a $1000+ to do that but not much dfference. Just sound proof your 4 doors (double layer f kiasu and it helps) will do.

As for m mirror, I recently installed it as well. Didn't have the opportunity to drive fast but don't think the reduction will be significant though it might improve just a little due to the design and ergonomics of the m mirror.

Think wind noise not to bad as BMW has got quite good sound proofing. It is definitely not as irritating as the rattles inside the cabin...

Hope it helps.

guys, at 140kmh, i am surprised that the issue here is wind noise. consider the amount of air your car will have to 'move' as it drives through it. and wind resistance increases exponentially with speed.

one of the culprits of wind noise will be the side mirrors, and depending on the car you drive, it can vary from the 'elephant ears' of the E46 and newer E90 LCI, to the slightly more streamlined E90 PFL.

when BMW designed the car, they would already have put it through wind tunnel testing to minimise wind resistence, to maximise fuel efficiency.

i would think the bigger issue here would be road noise generated by the tyres, which at that speed would definitely be louder that any wind noise you would encounter.

what about the engine noise? at 140kmh, depending on the size of the engine, the tacho would be reading at least 3000rpm?

so if the road and engine noise are louder than the wind noise, what are you going to do? change tyres? soundproof entire passenger compartment of your car? you can, like what rolls royce does, but then a typical RR weighs in at around 2 tons, and guzzles fuel.

so that's why my advice would be to turn up the volume of your radio. as long as you don't have to shout to make yourself heard, that's normal. and it costs nothing.

BMWs are built for superior handling and performance, and above average comfort - not the other way round.

do not compromise handling and perfomance for comfort, otherwise you should consider lexus and mercedes.

The M Mirrors for me did help alot, especially when travelling over 100kmh. Significant lack of wind noise.... but that's the biggest difference I noticed after the installation.

As for the sound proofing, as per the consensus, when I did for my previous car, it didn't really help. All it did was add weight to the car.

Thanks to all the bro precious review :p guess I will save the money for sound proofing ! But honestly I do really enjoy be a bimmer and vy confirm that certain thing that Lexus and merc is not comparable with Bmw ... So ... 1 day bimmer , forever bimmer
