hi guys,

recently at low speed esp during move off, the gear change is slightly jerky. i can feel the gear change. but if the move off is faster, the gear change is pretty smooth.

is this normal? or is there a problem with the gear box?

car has only done about 23,000km. engine oil has been changed to ows.

hope someone can shed some light on this...

thanks.

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

icic.....thanks adrian :) so i guess it is pretty normal...

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

strange but it works for me, u try to 'warm up' the car and will not experience tat.

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

I also have the same problem and thought its because of my heavy foot + the sprint booster!

bro,

same problem but PML test driver says it is like that one- screw them! my bros fren has the same problem with his BMW and it escalated into one major problem whereby PML LL need to change the whole gearbox for him, but only after much wrangling with the nincompoops at PML, ah incompetence is so PML!!

bro, is this happening to you too?

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

Yes, been having this problem for a while. Done close to 9k....... and it's still happens.

PML says it's "normal". Am just waiting for it to get worse than ask if it's still "normal".

My take : they know something's not right, but if it's not a safety issue, they'll just continue to side-step the problem.

My mum's Corolla drives smoother.

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

mayb u just need to warm up b4 u drive... mine is doing good

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

it is not a warming up thingy, it happens at any time of the day. however, the problem is so slight and so intermittent that it is damn difficult to nail it down. lauch the car with a little more aplomb and you won't even have this problem, feather the throttle ever so lightly and it may just come on, damn.

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

My 1 week old E60 523 has the same problem. I sent it back to PML, and they say that 'the car needs to get used to my style of driving'. So I asked how long it will take for this to happen, the service advisor said 'a few months'. Go figure!

this is a lame reply from pml... for me i wil not buy it and the advisor wil get it from me...

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

i experience this jerky thing as well... thought it was normal...

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

if u are doing feather light throttling between 20-40km......u can actually simulate this problem to them.......i think japanese car indeed does drive smoother.....

maybe i will ask them to have a check, if this is the so called 'normal', then i will rest my case to pml....

anyone complain to the advisor during your schedule maintenance check? any actions or advise given?

Re: anyone experience jerky gear change on their e90?

Hi,

You can try to bring it in...... But I can tell you what they'll say to you and happen:

Firstly " Its normal"

Secondly, after you have insisted something be done - "Ok we'll reload/reset the software"

You pick up your car later, happy as a bee that you have finally licked the problem, drive off, then the problem returns.

And yes, only if you feather it. If not it drives fine.

Good luck none-the-less.

364690...

I agree wholehearted that that's what will happen with the PML service executive I deal with.
Horrendous...

I do by the way have the same problem too, but indeed it is intermittent...to the extent that to simulate.

Perhaps ALL drivers with this same problem should gather at PML to complain together? That doesn't appear to be a funny scene, and I think this collective "demonstration" will lead to actions?

hi
what major problem that it led to PML agreeing to change the whole gearbox. The car wouldnt drive at all?

I think I came across on the jerky gear change resolved by software update. Obviously in your case it was the mechanical issue

bro,

my brother was together testing my car as he had the same problem but rectified with a software update whereas mine has up to date software already!! whilst driving he mentioned to me briefly he knew of someone who had a very jerky autobox and finally got it replaced after much ding dong with PML. I am afraid can't offer you more details.

cheers,
