Anyone change 05's E60 headrests to 08 model?

guys, i find that the headrest at the front seats are not ergonomic at all. both uncomfortable (too far for neck) and also safety concern (in case of accidental).

I notice that newer 5 series has headrest which are thicker as there is a adjustable pad at the front.

Question is -
1) can we convert to this newer headrest?
2) as the headrest is automatic, any comparability issue?
3) can this be a DIY project?
4) cost?

i will be in shanghai tomorrow. hopefully, there will be BM specialist shop where I can shop for parts. maybe, maybe can find some cheap and good "made-in-china" stuffs. heee.

I saw someone did it in the other forums. Works but the iron rod which in our seats are grooved are not in the later versions it seems.

The headrest will after time slide down - Feedback from the modder.

Otherwise all should be fine. Brand new from distributors, the headrests are about 1k just I checked and estimated in singapore.

I think the sliding down of the iron rod is a small issue since most of us dont actually meddle with its position anyway.

but....1K for 2 headrests is really ridiculous. waupang. 24k gold plated one

poor man like me may have to o buy 2 dog bones from autobac and place them there liao.

Be like me, get neck rests from ebay. $80 only and CF material. Does the job

If you are referring to the E60 LCI models, it could be expensive because there is an airbag inside the headrest. Also, it cannot be pulled up and out as in DIY. It's linked to a crash sensor such that in the event of impact, the sliding portion of the headrest will pop out to support your head.
