Anyone bought from PI?

Merry Christmas!

Am wondering if anyone has bought a BMW from the PI and would be able to share some experiences.

It is about 10% cheaper... quite significant given PML's markup on some models.

In particular, how's the after sales service?

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

I know Vincar sold quite a few units of M5. We should start building a thread on "Guide on buying BMW from PIs" and make this a long term buying guide.

ps: not only price cheaper but they are normally quite fully accesorised cars. As fro PML, its $$ $$$ $$...SMLC also optional item:screwedu:

Depending on how good your PI's are.. my family is very close to one PI frm Auto Concept and his after sales service is top notch .. not only that.. the cars you buy frm him will have warranty frm him comfirmed.. he has his own in house workshop behind his showroom .. very very professional..

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Try Vin Car. They have a designated workshop to handle the aftersales service as well (MBM Wheelpower at Sin Ming) as well. BTW, they are offering 3-year or 60,000 km warranty (check for details).

Lastest prices on guaranteed COE 2 bids pre-rebate-basis - E92 hardtop cab 325 $198K before discount, hardtop cab 335 $229K before discount, 335 coupe $211K before discount, 120i $117K before discount......

Check with Ivan or Edwin at Vin Car.

Not vested. Colleague's family-owned business.

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Hi Ken, did Vincar say when the first deliveries for the 335i hard-top cab will be?

Interesting, Vin Car is willing to bring in the 1-series (120i) to singapore!? Although its price is just around $10k diff from PML's 320iA, the 1-series is a very interesting model, will surely attract a few buyers. I tried one out when i was up in KL a few months ago, handles fantastically! :)

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Wah! Ken you went to ask? Prices are pretty reasonable no? Any idea what's the OMV on the Hardtop 335 cab?

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Yes, I bought from PI twice before.

Pros
- Better price ( only if its at least 10% cheaper ) So more worthy it if you buy cars that are more expensive
- Sometimes more options ( only if they are useful options )

Cons
- Resale value will definitely be much worst ( u get at least 10% less )
- After sales service not really better but just that you the expectation on PML will be higher

Will I still buy from PI? Yes, why not if the price is right. Warranty should not be a big problem because if your car is a lemon, whether you got it from PML or PI, you're still screwed.

Nope, Jason. One of the Beng family is sitting besides me in the office, so quite easy to find out.

The OMV ranges from $61K to 65K for the hardtop 335 cab.

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

so
one test-drives the car at PML and in the end buys from PI..........sounds like a good thing to do :)

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

PI's now are the way to go .. muahaha.. waiting eagerly for the 997 GT3..

Who har? :nehnehhh:
I wanted to buy from PML but they not responsive lei...I'm still waiting for them to come back to me on my current car trade-in. By Jan-07, PI car will be in their showroom and I may change my mind if the price is right

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Me, use and abuse them. Just like they abused me when I still had warranty.

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Went to VINCAR to look at the E92 and Z4.

Here're the figures
E92 325CI - $183 opening price (cf $188 from PML)
has aluminium trim, hifi loudspeaker system, and sunroof over PML
+ other options are way cheaper than PML (sigh, PML even whacks us on the options...)

E92 335CI - $214 opening price (cf $238 from PML)
has logic 7 sound system but does not have iDrive and comfort access cf PML

Z4 2.5i $178 for manual (prob $181 for auto)... PML selling at $198
Includes Xenon lights
Z4 3.0i $198 + with Xenon lights, compared to $225 at PML

I think the Z4M at Vincar going at $245 versus $298 at PML

Anyone has experience at MBM Wheelpower? Thought their expertise is in Merc?

Also wondering about the resale value of PI cars... had the impression that after the 3 year warranty period, doesn't matter where the car came from since the only advantage PML has is the "official warranty"?

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

I've also been doing my research too, the hifi spec sound system and sunroof total to an additional $5k+ option if you opt for it on PML's units. So if spec both PI and PML's units the same and compare, the diff is approx. $10k. Thats just a 5%-6% difference on a $180k+ car. Not sure whether its enough to win me over.

The 335iA Coupe seemed to be a better deal at first, but after factoring in the iDrive with Navigation and Comfort Access on the PML models, and comparing both versions if spec-ed the same, the diff. turns out to be around $15k, so still not significant enough, especially on a $210k+ car.

These differences in equipment would probably reflect in the OMVs of both PI and PML's versions, so i guess thats why the PI versions usually fetch lower in the used car market, simply because the parf rebates are less anyways.

I had so-so experience with PI cars, 2 of my previous family cars were bought from PI, both PI closed shop within a year (or change name, which i've discovered is an industry trend), but luckly i didn't get lemon cars or have any major warranty issues to claim.

Imho, just looking at the figures for the luxury sports models, PI is still making very healthy margins, don't get me wrong, i'm all for competition and PI keep the authorised dealers on their toes, but considering PI don't have to maintain big glitzy showrooms and workshops, commit to orders of big shipments of stock or do expensive marketing... their costs are a tiny fraction of an authorised dealer's, gets me considering to open a PI myself! :)

My thoughts exactly. PI cars still not priced competitively enough.

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

10% savings are not that attractive imho.

with loyalty/corporate discounts and a fair bit of negotiation, i knocked off 5% from the sticker price when purchasing my car. if you factor in loan rebates(which i didn't take back then) and other feebies that your PML SE eventually throws in, you'd be fast approaching the price at which the PI quoted you.

DRV,

like the others have previously mentioned, PI cars take a hit in resale value and if you order one with a manual transmission... that's a double whammy. only do this if you're gonna keep the car till its time to send it to the scrapyard. everyone raves about how they'd want to buy your manual Z4 because it's closest to the true essence of a roadster, but don't let that mislead you, because when its time to take out the cheque book, "essence" gives way to common sense. always.

Re: Anyone bought from PI?

Louis,

Thanks for the advice...

Yup, me wife also says go for PML for peace of mind...
5%, will try to see if can get anywhere close to that (that's about 10k off, hmmm)

Am getting the auto 'cos my wifey does not like to drive manual. And with the new 6 sp auto with paddle shifts in sport mode, honestly I can't shift as fast myself.

Will keep posted when I get the new ride... it's a 4 month wait upon order at least 'cos those things are made in South Carolina in the USA...
