All heard about Engine Sludge. Have you seen it? Here...

This is a pic of a valve from a DFI Porsche engine.

Some more pics here: Maybe DFI is not a good buy - Planet Porsche

They tend to blame engine sludge on DFI. However, seem that some valvetronics here also got that sludge. It MAY be a USA issue, where the emission standards may be different.

One of the theories in the thread is that in DFI there is no indirect injection and thus no fuel detergent to clean the valve - all the fuel is injected into the cylinder directly, unlike in an indirect injection engine where the fuel is injected prior to the valves, making it possible for the detergents in the fuel to clean the valves shiny. This is an interesting point - means DFI engine ... your fuel got good detergent or not it doesn't matter coz it can't clean the valves anyway.

In any case, this is a special mention for a person with foresight to foresee this right from before any of this crap happened: DFI drawbacks - Planet Porsche

Exception is Lexus/Toyota 2GR-FSE and 3GR-FSE engines Toyota GR engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia which are dual mode injection engines - have both direct and indirect injection. If only to clean the yukky valves, I think, the technical trouble is worth it.

Re: All heard about Engine Sludge. Have you seen it? Here...

for those obsessives, this Seafoam thing seems to do wonders on non DFI engines to clean it up. I haven't seen it in Singapore, have you?

Seafoam is awesome - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Last time I used additives was in a Merc and it required a total electronics overhaul of the car, and that was using STP additives too ... plus this stupid oil additive called Tufoil. The ripped out the wiring loom from the car and changed many sensors, and those sensors they didn't change they had to change a month later. This guy here echoes my experience ... 6speedonline.com Forums - View Single Post - seafoam

I think Lexus have a new dual injection engine coming soon. I think its a patented design from what I was reading.

Lexus already have dual FI for 4 years now.

happens to many DI engines that includes VVT (or watever else you call it)
its valve deposits, i tot this is a thread abt oil sludge when i read the title

looking at the valve, its so badly fouled that it will most likely have a valve leak. which means its gonna have engine oil leaking into the cylinders...
which in turn agravates the sludging.

you're right I didn't think of that.

Sux. I really don't know how they are gonna solve this issue. I for one would not like the engine opened up all the time just to clean it up.
