alignment problem..

sent my car to BVO for alignment today (1 week after installing the coilovers i got from hetraa). ah wee sent me to the shop next door for alignment.

anyway, long story.. before alignment, steering wheel straight = straight path. post alignment, steering wheel straight = veering left...

post alignment, i drove for a while, veered left. brought back to the shop, and the guy there tried to swap my tires (probably 6 or 7 times). was there from 4.30pm til around 8pm.. finally the guy said he got it right (after numerous test drives round sinming area). but on a long stretch, the car still veers left like mad when my steering wheel is dead centred.

any ideas whats the problem? i'm going to bring my car back tomoro morning. he said that he had already aligned the front wheels. pretty adamant that it was my tires causing the problem, and he spent most of the time swapping tires from left to right, front to rear etc etc but thing is, before re-alignment, my car was not veering left when steering wheel centred..

i realize i am spending quite a bit of time in the workshop... doh!

Re: alignment problem..

which shop u go to alignment? some shops are bad in it , cos they do mostly for japanese cars...bmw needs a different kind of setting. happen to me before, after my alignment, i failed my inspection, can u believe it? then i went back to adjust...

its about some toe in settings for the front..

SMS me..

Re: alignment problem..

bro,

go to another shop to try, no point going back after he has done like so many swaps?! u can find a good alignment shop in the resource page

cheers,

Re: alignment problem..

well I think if he sent the car to the one 2 doors down from BVO it should be ok right?

Not so much the alignment but maybe some other steering part that went off after the coilovers install? could be just coincidence....why not get Ah Wee to do a check.

Re: alignment problem..

Go to allignment specialist like Kenny at AMK autopoint...
Other shop is Kian Tiong ( pretty good too ) at Sin Ming auto care level one

The allignment shop next to BVO? I did once and never wish to go back again.

Re: alignment problem..

wah, good timing. i've my own alignment story to share.

my steering wheel has never been properly aligned since the day PML changed my steering column, each time i bring it in for warranty claims or servicing, i tell the CSA and make sure its recorded into the system. they probably tried aligning it for 3-4 times, sometimes no change, sometimes instead of tilting left it tilts right, etc. whatever the case. it just never points straight. all this while i was still on OEM BMW rims.

i changed my rims recently, drove to PML for some warranty work and again complained abt the alignment and you know what? they conveniently blamed it on my new rims this time round and charged me $277+ for the alignment. wtf.

yup thats the one.. spent another two hours there. well this time he decided enough tire swapping. went back to the computerized alignment method.. still cannot. took off the bottom engine protector and adjusted a few things here and there. said one of the parts was over compensated/tightened or something in those lines.

i think its pretty much centred now.. thank goodness.. back to dirving enjoyment again :cloud9:

Re: alignment problem..

well, kudos to the mechanic, at least he tried and did solve the problem.

happy driving, bro! :)

ya man. i'm quite relieved he managed to solve it. phew!

the mechanic was the young looking guy with short spiky hair. he was very accomodating with my queries.. i know its especially difficult to do your job when someone is looking over your shoulder and hounding you with questions. anyway i tried my hardest to stay in the kopitiam across the road whilst he was busy locating the problem.

i suppose i wouldnt have any qualms with re-visiting them again if i have any more alignment problems in the future.

Re: alignment problem..

care to share which coilver you've changed? looking at Bilstein PSS9 for my ride...

I think PML workshop profits by making wheel alignment.... same problem with me n they keep doing that when I complain of steering vibration n keep charging me.... :furious:

Re: alignment problem..

they keep charging you? eh, don't waste your time with them la, outside workshop only $65 or so lei.

the only reason i paid up was because i haven't driven my car for over a month and couldn't tahan anymore... won't ever go back to them for alignment anymore.
