Airbag removal

Guys, trying to replace the stupid Y thing on the steering wheel. I am assuming the airbag has some detent springs somewhere holding it in place, logically i am thinking on the side of the airbag? Do i push a screwdriver in from both sides to release it? I also am assuming i should either disconnect the battery or at least the horn so as to not drive my neighbours crazy?

Re: Airbag removal

There are 2 holes at the side of your steering wheel. You don't have to stick 2 screwdrivers in at once. You can pop the springs one at a time.

It is of course better to disconnect the battery first. But experts do it without disconnecting...

Re: Airbag removal

thanks Chickadee, 2 holes in the side huh? hmmm, you must mean in the airbag itself. Ok, i will let you know how it goes, hahaha.

Re: Airbag removal

No, at the side of the steering wheel actually. It's a bit tricky to get the spring to pop. Push the screwdriver til you feel the spring, then push hard and you will see the airbag pop outta place. One both springs are released, disconnect the wires and pull the airbag out. Pretty simple.
