if its still under warrenty just go back and let them change your charcoal filter. if the smell is only at the beginning when u start the car, then i suspect it's stale condensed water in your condenser. does this happen only on cold start? or also on any subsequent starts later in the day? not supposed to have any smell at all.
logically, you shouldnt be expected to be charged unless it's down to wear and tear, meaning you go to a lot of places where it's dirty and smelly. but if it's due to the aircon performing abnormally, it's a claim case.
Just curious to know whether it is necessary to turn the Air-con completely off each time you trun-off the engine ?
My car is only 3 months old and now I noticed some kind of smell initially each time I turn the Air-con on. Do you guys face the same problem or it is normal for BMW Car ? I started to remember my previous 316i bought in 1994 face the same problem
It's not necessary to turn the air con off everytime u off your engine.
The foul smell you mentioned can be due to the water condensed in the condensor.
What u can do is to turn the air con to 26 or 27 degree once in a while and let it run for 10 minute at full blast. this will not only circulate the water that is trapped in the heater system, since our heater runs on the same line as our radiator so it's good to circulate the water once in a while and at the same time, dry up any water that's trapped into the pan..
