Air-con problem

Guys,

Need some advice here. In the past week, there were 2 instances when my air-con fan suddenly stopped as I was driving. After mebbe 5 minutes, the fan will come back on. I am not sure if it is a sign that some part is gonna spoil soon. Any idea what is the fault and can anyone recommend a good workshop that can trouble-shoot BMW air-con problems?

Since the problem only occurred twice, I am also concerned that the problem cannot be replicated when I go to the workshop at this juncture, then it is a wasted trip, or worse still, the workshop then ask me to change all the unnecessary stuff it dunno the problem.

Any advice is much appreciated. Kum xia.

Andy,
u look for Ah Chuan @ 96604911. He knows E39 well and does the aircon repair or replace with reasonable price. Look for him and check what's wrong first.

Re: Air-con problem

You mean the engine fan? Happened to my E46 before, and eventually it became more frequent and almost ended up with an overheated engine. Changed the faulty fan, everything back to normal again. :)

Thanks. Earnest of BVO said might be some resistor problem which is a cheap fix. He also suggested I blast the air-con at full speed first in case some dirt caused the fan to mul-function. I will monitor. Kum xia.

Re: Air-con problem

Just curious: if it's really resistor problem, then is it something that can wait until the thing dies then change, or is it something that you better do something now or else it will lead to something else more major?

Re: Air-con problem

Yup, it's the resistor pack that's gone kaput. I encountered the same problem myself, started off with the air-conditioner blowing at the same speed regardless of where the dial was, therefater, blower went dead and the only way to get it moving was to set it to full blast then bring it down to the desired level.
