Aerosol tyre repair kits-do they work?

There are these emergency tyre repair sprays in an aerosol can, used to inflate and mend flat tyre, so as to allow one to limp to the nearest repair shop. Has anyone gotten the chance to use one?
If they work as advertised, then does anyone think that having a can in the car would obviate the need for a heavy spare tyre in the boot?

i just recently bought the Airman Instant Tyre repair kit, not just an aerosol spray,
haven't had a chance to use it yet.. (luckily)

But i gonna take out he spare tyre now...

Yes, i heard about the Airman kit. However, the cost of the spray type is less then $20 I think, compared to the much costlier Airman kit. Wonder if both are as effective.
The other issue is that since these kits ( Airman and sprays ) contain chemical sealant, is there a shelf life for such items?

the spray type that costs less than $20 will corrode/melt the inner lining of your tyre as it hardens within your tyre.

yes, it'll fix your flat and allow you to drive to the nearest tyre shop, but thereafter, you'll have to change the whole tyre as it can no longer be patched and reused. i know of people who keep driving their cars for a month or two after using the spray without ill effect though.

don't know about the airman.
