Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Hi guys,

May be pulling a trigger finally on a z4 subject to satisfactory PPI at J4C next week.

I noticed in the engine bay of the car that there is a fairly large aluminum-like plate attached across the left side of the engine bay, something like a heat shield for those with aftermarket filters.

Funny enough (or silly me), this is my first time inspecting the engine bay of a Z4 despite viewing a few units.

Is that aluminum piece normal? I'm no enginner but it looks out of a place in the otherwise all-black engine bay.

Pls advise.

Many thanks
B

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Congrats, you finally decided on the Z4. SLK, no?

No expert either, no worries bro, juzz let Juzz 4 Car do their inspection, the most reliable source.

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Hi Turbo,

My apologies, meant to update you as well mate. My better half preferred the SLK but we couldn't agree on the pricing with the seller so it was called off. :)

If anyone knows what that alum piece is, pls chip in. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for J4C's input.

Cheers,
B

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

hahaha...thanks mate! Gong Xi Fa Cai btw!

if all goes well at J4C, time to look for modding ideas...

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

hi B,

1) j4c only re-opens for business on 18th

2) the alu heat shield is standard, no worries.

good luck!

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

and i think its on the right side of the engine bay (exhaust manifold side)....but left if you're viewing the car head-on.

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Hi Louis,

Thanks for your feedback mate! :)

Only the 18th? nice break! ok, looks like my PPI will have to wait till then. Btw, do you know if J4C checks the car for signs of accidents/collisions as part of its PPI?

Cheers,
B

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Just realised I'm travelling on the 18th...

Who else does a good job for PPI? Does BVO conduct them?

Cheers,
B

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

B,

any tom dick and harry workshop will be happy to do a ppi for you. whether you trust their assessment is a different matter altogether.

inspecting for signs of previous collision is integral to a ppi, but i think shops like j4c or bvo don't have that fancy ultrasound machine that measures paint thickness... although amos from j4c is rather accomodating so i'm sure he can always arrange for an sta inspection with that paint measuring thingy, on top of his own ppi.... for a price of course.

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

It's standard material.

On my car too.

Re: Advice needed pls - engine bay z4

Hi Louis,

Thanks for the headsup. Perhaps I'll stick with J4C then. I'm keen to do the paint measurement thingy as the left rear bumper is slighly nudged out at the corners. I'm concern if the car was rear ended as opposed to a bad parking (dealer speak),

Cheers,
B
