Advice and Help Needed

Dear BMW brothers,

May I seek your advice in my 335i problem?

Was driving halfway when the engine warning light came on and I immediately brought it to the workshop.
Workshop advised that DME (Digital Motor Electronics) is fried and I will need to repair/replace the DME.
Brand new is 3k plus and the DME takes 3 weeks to arrive. This will mean a down time of nearly a month!

Cant the chip be repaired and what are the implications if I repair it?

Any brothers here with similar problems can help advise me please???

Which workshop did you go to, convenient to disclose?
I feel that u should seek a 2nd opinion. Talk to Rod from R2D.

Rod recommends a new chip.
Im exploring other alternatives such as repairing it. Cheaper and lesser down time too.
Any beemer brothers here with similar DME problems to share please?

Check if propel have second hand parts ?

Ask MA to see if can re flash it ...... The equipment there is different and should be able to do more.

I had replaced my DME before. Brand new from PML was $1700 - they would require your VIN. Get R2D to get it for you, then recode. BTW, 3 weeks is bullshit.

Depending on what is damaged - for instance, a sunken pin in the DME can be repaired.

Yes, 3 weeks is likely because the WS sourcing / supply chain is less experienced.
Ask R2D.

Or you consider to change to X-Wing? New versions include: X1 to X6 (M).
