Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

I read on the net that some people have claimed that adding 2T (2 stroke oil) to their petrol tank in very small quantities (~0.08% or 8ml for every 10L petrol) can improve engine power. Don't know if its true but sounds interesting.

After doing some research online, I found that what 2T does to engine may be very similar to what petrol additives does.

1. Detergents to clean combustion chamber and exhaust. 2T engines are inefficient by design and it does acculumates alot more carbon deposits compared to 4T engines. Similar to what our petrol additives does.

2. Lubricate engine combustion chambers and pistons. I read from various premium grade petrol (eg. V POwer, Esso 98 etc) that it contains friction enhancers to lubricate piston rings and valves etc. This is pretty much what the 2T oil does as well.

Since its in very tiny amounts, I don't see how it can damage our engines or fuel lines etc. 2T engines works in the same way as 4T engines. It uses the same petrol, require fuel/air mixture to burn and has a spark plug. Made of similar materials as well (pistons, rings engine block etc). Our engines uses injectors and some 2T engines uses injectors as well (some are carbs).

Btw, 2T oil contains PolyIsoButylene. Its used as an additive and detergent in petrol and diesel.

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

I've been riding for the past 10+ years from 2-stroke bike to 4-stroke bike with at least 10 different bikes altogether. For all 2-stroke engine, 2T is needed to premixed with petrol before it enters the combustion camber. For some older bikes, u have to agar agar pour in but for newer bikes, there are a seperate container for 2T and Petrol and they are factory controlled to premix the right amt.

The main purpose of 2T is more for cooling down the engine due to the "2-stroke per conbustion" and thus it runs much hotter than "4-stroke per combustion" engine. Of course, it help with the detergent and lubricating properties. Some ppl even try to put more 2T for older engine to prevent piston jam. Btw, 2-stoke engine are very prone to piston jam. However the trade are, u will get loss of power(2T burn much less efficient than petrol) and u will get hell lots of white smoke and sometimes liquid tar at the tip of ur exhaust. The reason why some bikes with a lot of white smoke it not becos engine wanna kaput alr but it is becos they pour too much 2T. In bikers term, white smoke=no prob and black smoke=engine need overhaul soon.

When I change from 2-stroke bike to 4-stroke bike(btw, most or all cars are 4-stroke). I have also wondered before if i shld add 2T to the petrol. The ans is NO! Simply becos 4-stoke engine normally have efficient enuf cooling system(like cars with radiator, fan, pump etc) and no 1 with big bikes will wanna sacrfice power for the properties of 2T.

Lastly, I believe the "white smoke" (unburned 2T) may interfere our cars fitted with catalytic converter. SO pls think twicw before putting that stuffs in..

Yes, 2T oil burns less efficient than petrol, thats why it has to be added in tiny amounts.

Anyway, I bought a bottle of Shell Advance VSX from the petrol kiosk today. Filled up my tank with V power and added just 50ml to the full tank. Travelled for a round 100KM and went for my night ride along my usual route. Several chances to test out my 0-100 sprint and whoo.... It does make a difference...... I don't think its placebo effect because I have been solely on V Power for 2+ months already so if there is no difference, I should not feel anything.

Will test out a couple more times and see what happens.

I have done some reading up and I don't think it will cause any power loss. You have to remember that our engine does not burn 100% of the petrol (even though its more combustible than 2T oil). From the hydrocarbon emission standards I have seen, around 0.5-1% of the petrol is unburnt in the combustion chamber. That means 5-10ml for every 1L of petrol.

Even if all the 2T oil we added don't get burnt, we are just adding an additional 0.85ml to that figure. 5.85-10.85ml for every 1L of petrol.... hardly make any difference.

Since u have alr added 2T to ur ride, might as well share some info with u. We bikers used to pour 2T while parking and dun ride straight away. This is becos, the 2T is pretty thick(almost like our engine oil thickness) and will take some time to mix well with petrol. This is for those without seperate container for 2T.

I suggest if u want more power and some secondary effect of injector cleaning, clearing of carbon etc. u may wanna try toulene and even xylene.

Yar, I do agree its a little thick, like a 30wt oil.

As for toulene and xylene... hoho.... Octane booster and power fuel!! Not to mention TNT comes from toulene as well....lol...

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

I've actually tried using toulene/xylene when i'm working in petrochemical industry previously. The effect is pretty big. My concoction is 500ml per full tank. This amt is definitely safe as compare to race car putting 2/3 or even half in ratio. Heavy wear and tear in engine parts will occur if u put such high amt for everyday driving. :sneaky:

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

2T will be a similar to an octane booster, but even still, i wouldnt be adding 2 stroke oil to my car. Tolulene does work however.

and for bikes, 2T mixes almost instantly. a few tank slaps and its mixed.

TNT comes from nitromethane right?

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

This makes sense. Remember the fuel lubricant that you add with your petrol? It is oil man! :)

Hopefully not snake oil.

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

I know for certain that many RX 8 owners add 2T oil when they do fill up petrol. This is because the rotary engine runs extremely hot and this 2T oil is suppose to help to a certain extend and also helps their engine to run smoother. 2 schools of thought though amongst RX8 owners, some are faithful followers but some do not subscribe to this idea.
If added in controlled amounts should be beneficial as confirmed by bro Futron. Just that dont think many people will bother to go fill up with 2T first before filling up with petrol.
I am keen though to try and see if it makes any difference.
Bro Futron, whats the differences that you experienced? Have you been filling up with the 2T oil for every fuel top up at the petrol kiosk?

Re: Adding 2T Oil to Petrol Tank

Siao.....just drive normal.

Want more power, either get your car tune up or add NOS.

If not, just buy a more powerful car!

Period.

Oh yes, my fuel mileage has increased a little now. Not bad not bad!
