Active Steering problem

Dear all,

My Active Steering alert has been coming up recently and getting too often for comfort. I will usually power off and on a few times and drive off despite active steering still off. It will then come back about 5-10mins time. But this is disturbing.

Any bros encounter this before and could enlighten me what's the problem? Major overhaul of steering?

Nope...if your problem is what I think it is, I got that too initially. It was due to faulty sensors which need to be replaced. I had mine done during the first service and it has been dandy since. I think it happened again last week, but only once so now I'm monitoring the situation.

Sir, thanks for sharing. Could you share with me what are the parts/sensors identified as faulty so that I can communicate with PML guys for a more representative advice. else, they will take all the time and bill me all the costs to just troubleshoot before even arriving at a probable cause

hi,

are u seeing the amber steering wheel sign? if yes, send it in asap before it turn red ...cos it wont go away. learnt from my stubborness - i got mined towed and was car-less for a weekend...

To all who have help,

Just to close off the whole topic, I have sent the car to PML. Diagnosis came back with steering control sensor failure. Need to replace the whole steering block. S$6000.

Hi Wugui,
I have exactly the same active steering problem that you have encountered. PML says it is a known issue for some cars with the Active Steering option when it was first introduced. PML has put up a request to BMW Germany to waive/subsidies the cost of the steering block but I must still pay for the labour and wheel re-alignment charges.
