Accelerator click sound

I am driving a 2005 E60.

I notice there is a clicking sound if you floor the accelerator fully. Does anyone know what this is for? I understand there is a same feature in Porche which essentially makes the engine/acceleration for lively.

Is this the same for a BMW?

Re: Accelerator click sound

It's a kickdown switch where the acceleration is maximum. No more fuel savings program when this is activated....

Re: Accelerator click sound

To add, the automatic gear box drops to the lowest possible level to achieve this...

Re: Accelerator click sound

shifts down a gear... steptronic

Re: Accelerator click sound

haha not exactly "a" gear. If you suddenly floor it up to before the button, the egs may choose to drop one gear for you. But the button is designed to drop to the lowest possible gear without overrevving. So it could be a drop of 1,2,3... gears.

Re: Accelerator click sound

Hmm, I believe its called kick-down(Referring to the manual). IMO, best to use when you decide to race someone at the lights at a moments notice :p
