520i.. whats your petrol consumption like?

My mum's '05 520i is about 5months old.. already run in, now over 10,000km alrdy. But i noticed that the FC never improve, the avg consumtion is 7.3km/l. Just now from the office>dinner>home i turn on the OBC, and by the end of the journey the fc is 5.0km/l !!

only recently that i got my license that i realized the petrol cost each month for the 2 cars come in the thousands! Is this FC acceptable for such a car?
btw, i am extremely light footed with this car, never exceeding 2k rpm..

Well, mine 3.0 litre and clock the same as yours. But then most of my journey has more highway. Your today journey is urban driving, that's why consumption is high

That's very interesting. My 1991 520i with 24v engine does between 7.5-8.3 km/l, and it was branded a guzzler in its day.Mostly city/short trips. best ever was 10.5 km/l, Penang run. Mine should be run in now, has 324000 km on the clock. FC measurement by manual to the brim method. No OBC.

My friend's 2005 520 is getting 8.5. Lives at Tampines and travels into CBD daily. He drives okay but wife drives like mad woman!!!

Are you on stock rims or have you upsized to a bigger rim?
That might play a part in increased consumption too.

stock 16" rims. btw becos the factory is in jurong, its like 80%-90% highway all the time.
could there be some inherent problem with the car? is there a case to send it in to pml?

with my upsized 17' rims, i got 9.3km/l, from Spore to KL, at an average 150km/hr.

check the tire pressure, clear any extra load or send in to PML

its not always the case that being light footed will give u the best FC. its better to accelerate swiftly (but not WOT) to your chosen speed, then crawling there by keeping ur rpms low, as you are making most use of your gears efficency and getting to your best FC gear (i.e 4th or 5th) faster.
