BTW anyone here realised that BMW AG NEVER called the 1602, 2002, 3er E21, 3er E30's a Coupe until they launched the E36 2 door? They were referred to as "sporting saloons".

Yeah definitely no. E21/E30 2-door form is not coupe. Its still a sedan. I guess its mainly because of the platform that they use. For example look at the E30 4-door form it has the same basis as the 2-door and it only has 2 more doors. If you look at the B pillar you can tell that its not a coupe.

E36 coupe has more slant A pillar and narrower B pillar typical of a coupe compared to its sedan counterpart.
