Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

There has been some talk in the US about problems with the 335's oil cooler and fuel pump, as mentioned by our friend Azrielsc. Anyone know what is the situation re Singapore cars? Seems that the oil cooler is ok since January production, but what about the fuel pump? Yeah, I can always ask PML........

Problem has been addressed in March Production and thereafter.

You mean the fuel pump problem? How has it been addressed? Mine is March production! :-(

Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

Omar, don't jinx me leh :) *Touch Wood*

Worse comes to worse, change at PML loh.... only hope they get their spare parts in asap cuz I can't have the car in PML for anything at all!

Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

I'm just wondering whether 3.0l engine with TT can be easily transplanted.

Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

Ryan
That is evil thought...but interesting.
As far as engine bay space is concerned, no biggie coz Z's got so much space.
So hv to deal with the electronics, drivetrain etc.

N54 is based on the same as the M54 only diff is the iron cast cylinders with aluminium crankcase. Displacement, bore and stroke is exactly as M54 if i am not mistaken with the N52 variant being different in terms of the above i have mentioned. I reckon it will be possible but the transmission will be a bitch to source since it is relatively new. As for SMG users, i dont know if you have to upgrade and to what extent the drivetrain can take it. But one thigns for sure, convert to manual and the worst of your nightmares will be solved and fitting it wudnt really be a problem. Or you can wait for the Z4 3.0 tt. to come out. I understand that after the 535i, the X3 and Z4 will respectively be fitted out with the new N54 tt. Jack is right. Drivetrain and electronics pose the biggest challenge after the drop in.

Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

Now if the 3.0L TT is fitted to the Z4, what's the point of the Z4M then, since the Z4M is using the current E46 M3 engine?? Unlike the new E92 M3 with the v8 engine!

Power to weight. The old S54 M3 engine was relatively heavy due to the block made of cast steel for compactness. But the newer N54 variant is lighter due to the aluminium crankcase with iron cast liners. Also, low end torque on the Z4 will definitely be below 5secs stock. So procede the bugger and you will get a Lotus Exige S. 0-100 in 4.2secs with superior straight line pick up. I reckon they will have to do more chasis rigidity to handle the increased torque, etc.

Re: 335i Procede Vs Evo IX MR

In terms of power to weight arguement, its all fine... but we are talking about BMW cannabilizing the Z4M market segment, which i doubt they would do so.

Any other rumour is the US$500 ecu upgrade that u told me about, imo, it ain't happening at all.

Untimately, BMW is a business and by shoehorning the 3.0L TT into a Z4 would backfire, UNLESS, they have v8 engine from the E92 M3 waiting to be fitted into the Z4M. :) Now that would be something.

I heard abt the US$500ecu upgrade on e90 post. not going very well with those guys. Most think its BS for BMW to offer it. But on another perspective, the car is way underrated on paper so i think there is a possibility. The Z4m can fit a V8 engine due to the enormous space of the hood me thinks. But it will definitely not be 50:50 anymore. Anyway, the M3 is bought not just for sheer power but for everythign else designated by the ///M marque. So i dont really think its a cause of concern on them cannabilzing in the z4m market. An ///M will always be an ///M. :) The new 335i with proceed is already very close to the new m3 numbers. BUt ppl will buy the new ///M for a host of new features like the Flexray and its adaptation to active chassis and suspension management, style, handling, etc. its just 2 different markets though the power figures are somewhat overshadowing the new ///M. I think BMW was already prepared for that. Demand > Supply = Price increase. And so many ppl have the 335i on order. The new M3 is a niche market comparatively speaking. Exponentially, BMW has become a mass car maker and the ///M division seems somewhat quiet now with Brunke, President of ///M division, tendering after the new E92 was released.
