320/a4/is250

Hi All,

I'm new here and am considering buying a 320. Have spent quite a bit of time reading the reviews/problems with PML and the 320. 2 main points i picked up for a discussion

1) PML Service
- Seems like many people are experiencing bad service from PML. To be honest, this is singapore and i dont expect much after sales serivce regardless of what you buy..be it cars or consumer products. Guess it's just our culture...But it's quite disappointing to hear these complaints ....imagine paying $130K for a German Engineered car with ordinary service....BMW comes to everyone's mind when we talk about conti cars...I believe it commands certain respect and prestige

2) Car problems
- i have also read about problems such as valvetronic, rear axle problems, oil leaks, etc from relatively new cars. I think some have experienced these problems within months of ownership I have never owned a BMW before. It is a common thing? but it sounds alarming for sure. I beginning to sway towards the A4/IS250. To be fair, i havent gone into their forums yet..I

Please share your views on this...What i have written is purely personal..no offence to anyone out there. I still want to own a BMW so bros out there...pls "sway" me back! Thanks

There's an all new A4 due to be shown at next month's Frankfurt show. You might want to wait and see if you like that, or perhaps use it to pick up a good deal on the current model from Premium.

You sound like reliability is quite a priority for you; in which case I reckon the IS 250 is going to be as trouble-free as you can get.

Happy hunting!

errr oops! :p

I'd take the 320i for the handling, I should have hastened to add!

The IS has a great engine, but it's damn uninvolving to drive. And incredibly cramped in the rear. BMW wan shui!! :woowooo:

Re: 320/a4/is250

Pls dont buy 320i, get the A4 or IS250. Too many 320i on the road liao:lol2:. However, if u do eventually decide on a 320i, pls dont get TiAg.

Also dont get the 335i if u are considering, get a Boxster hor. But if u die die get 335i, pls get something else besides black.

Re: 320/a4/is250

For the same amount of money, the IS250 has the best engine (V6 24v) and top-notch Lexus service.

My thoughts against the A4, since PA only brings in the Multitronic (CVT) transmission. Sorry they don't give you a choice of a Tiptronic or DSG (the latter only available for certain models).

Can't say much about the 320i ... entry-level 4-potter. But if you can stretch a bit to get the 325i, this one will beat them all in the

Re: 320/a4/is250

I've been driving the old IS (200) for the past 4 years, and my younger bro drives the A4.A4's been ard for a while now and they should be introducing a new model soon.
I've test-driven the new IS250 but in the end I've decided on the 320i (am taking deliver in Sept)

So here's my take.
Depending on what you're looking for in a car.
The IS250 is a great car and you won't be dissapointed with their after/before sales service.
My past 2 cars were also japanese cars and you can truly drive them for years without very much engine trouble or any trouble for that matter.
The IS250(std) costs about $130K but comes with a lot more features compared to the 320i.
Something that I would miss is the folding mirrors, 17' rims, in-dash CD changer...etc.

For me personally I'm switching to the 320i becoz I want a change from Japanese cars and also, insurance, road tax and petrol consumption would most likely be higher for the IS250.

The rear seat for the IS250 is really cramp, but that's coz their seats are very plush,
If you regularly ferry a lot of ppl then that might pose a problem.

The IS250 launched in SG later than the 320i so the 320i should see a facelift of some sort earlier than the IS250.

Re: 320/a4/is250

My opinion is that there are many good alternative 4 cylinder car than 320i. Unless you just want to buy the brand. E90 320 may handle well, but the overall package for that price is not too attractive unless your childhood ambition is to buy BMW.

For 4 cylinder, A new Civic with pretty good handling and overall package at half the price (again branding may differ alot).

Other sedan choices at 100k+- : MarkX, 120k+- is250.

All boils down you want look or you want function.

But if you are considering 323i and above to is250, then the E90 it is.
