2D1N drive - recommendations?

Hello,

I was looking at the map where we can go for a two day (one night) drive. I have been to Desaru beach, and Port Dickson - liked both.

Where else we can drive in, kids play in the beach, relax and drive home next day? Could anyone recommend?

How about Mersing? Muar? Any beach resort there? When I looked at Trip Advisor, most of the hotels seem to be in the town (even in Melaka). There are lot of places in Kuantan but drive will be too long (I assume) for one night stay.

If not beach, any other place 7 year olds can enjoy few hours? :helpp!:

Thanks

go tioman island, but you'll have to park your car at mersing and take a ferry over. it's quite safe though and you can see quite a few SG cars there too. can enjoy the sun and sea. been there quite a few times myself.

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

Cool. Where do we park? Are there car parks maintained by the hotel we book? Or, they are public car parks? Would you recommend any hotels? (sorry for too many questions) :)

Wonderful. Let's see how this develops.

I also have a 17 year old (doing A-Level) and a 19 year old (NUS), in addition to the 7 year old :D. So, it is kind of hard to find a time slot that all can join. That was one reason for aiming for a single night trip - most likely 23rd or 30th Oct weekend. Not sure whether that fits your schedule.

Two more trips in my "to do list" are Cameron Highlands and Kuantan - but they all need two-nights to be useful. Probably in December or January!

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

i know of a few fellow forummers here who are also keen....
so easily should be able to get a convoy of 5 or more cars.

we could research on the location, then decide on the date.

unlikely the dates can accomodate everyone, but so long as there is a sizable group, can set off liao.

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

I don't mind Cameron, but available only in dec. That time peak season.

Hi Ben, I looked at the Internet about the ferries, speed-boats, etc. and, it looks like we need to set aside 3-4 hours to get to the island from the time we reach Mersing because we may have to wait for next ferry, wait for high tide, etc. Am I wrong?

So, trip to Tioman probably needs more than one night, right? I also heard that November - March is not a good time there due to monsoon.

There are to jetties in Mersing. Which one we should take?

Thanks

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

Hiadee, forget Muar. There is no beach resort(check map):nehnehhh:. Muar is an old town situated near a river. Ever heard of the Muar River? Used to go there with some cousins to catch fish when I was also 7 years old and once saw a freaking python at the river bank. People go there to eat mainly.

Mersing also got nothing much by itself. its a launch pad to islands like Tioman, Redang, Aur etc.

if u havent driven to Cameron Highlands, I suggest u do so. Long drive but good for the ultiate driving machine. There is no freaking road in SG that comes close. Go up via Simpang Pulai though, do use the old road up. Avoid weekends of school holidays esp long weekends. It will be 3D/2N.

If die die must have beach, go Kuantan.

ABD, any suggestion where to stay and park car for 3D2N in Cameron Highlands? Tks...

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

Park at whatever hotel u stay lor. In Cameron Highlands, there are a lot of swift(birds) that make nest on ceiling so make sure if u park in covered areas, u don't parkd directly under a swift nest else next morning yr Z4 will be full of $hit. For Z4, better use Valet:nehnehhh:

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

Searched the forum but couldn't find this... what are the recommended routes to Kuantan? Heard a few:
1 - Take east coast route via Mersing - many people don't recommend it during rainy season
2 - Take NSE and go via Segamat - can someone explain the route please
3 - Take NSE and take Karak Expressway (E8) - biggest question here is how to bypass KL traffic? Can someone explain please?
Thanks

hey Bandu, sorry for the late reply. for the trip to tioman, the ferry trip from mersing takes around 45mins to tioman. the drive from JB will take around 1.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions. it will be those 2 way roads so be prepared to get trap behind big trucks and goods vehicles.

from what i know, there is only 1 ferry terminal that runs in mersing for tourists and its operated by Bluewater Ferry. there are quite a few timing where the ferry will set out to tioman, just don't be late as they tend to leave on time. i did miss the timing before cos i was late for 15mins.

as for parking, there are a few public carparks around and they charged per daily basis. it's quite safe so don't have to worry. just don't leave any visible valuables like GPS lying around.

i would recommend 2 hotels. Berjaya tioman resort and Japamala resort. if kids are joining, go for the Berjaya as Japamala is more of a romantic escapade for couples. and you are right, there's monsoon season from November to Febuary so it really depends on when you want to travel. there are some resorts that will close during monsoon but some will offer very good promotional rates. i've been there during monsoon once and it's isn't all that bad, i still enjoyed myself other then the choppy ferry ride.

if you are looking for a superb drive and a coool getaway, go cameron. the smile never left my face when i drove up/down the mountain.

Re: 2D1N drive - recommendations?

Thanks Ben. I appreciate your help. I checked the hotel website, and I was impressed - seems like a place with quality. I like it.

Berjaya hotel told me that they can't arrange the ferry tickets. So, is there a way to purchase them in advance? or I should go there and buy from the counter?
