245/45/17 vs 245/40/18

All dear bro ,

Another time to change for my tyre : ( ( y tyre on BMW life span so short one ah ?! )

Thinking of changing to 18" ( can't afford 19" cos abt money and comfort for my family )

But looking at the profile it looks like the only different is thickness 45 vs 40 on 18"

Would it be a significant improve on handling if I change to 18" or I should just stay on 17" for pocket not to be cut big hole by the keep raising price on rubber cost now day ??

Thanks in advance for all the feedback !

Re: 245/45/17 vs 245/40/18

it's a standard, the larger the rim the lower the profile, ie: 45/17 vs 40/18

if money and comfort for your family is a consideration, i would say stay with current setting

upgrading to profile 40/18 does not improve the handling at least not noticeable

up 1 size with premium tyre will improve handling.
some owner upgrade size but you a lower range tyre sure dont feel improvement but just look
alternatively you can stay with stock size and go for premium tyre which is more sence to me

Since most bro agreeded with current setting good enough think will stay with 17" and look for better tyre to improve handling instead thx all !

How many km did your tyres lasted? Different tyre make/model has different wear rate, not really to do with car, though having said that, heavier car wears tyres faster (assuming driving style is same).

For example, GY Eagle F1 Asym lasted me 40,000km but BS RE001 already half gone just after 10,000km on the same car, same position (rear).

I am also on BS RE001. Seems to wear off very fast!!! I thot it was because I use AYE daily - AYE road surface damn rough.

Now on dunlop sport maxx TT .. Reaching 20k and tread still remain 60% .. Much better compared to previous PS3 tyre that only last me 15k with 20% thread remain ( FYI , althought treadwear on PS3 indicted as 320 )

15K is far too too short....

+1 .

I'm using PS3 and just passed 10k but still looks good.

Have about 70-80% tread remaining, not too bad.
