Paper reported NEX food courts charging $11 for prawn noodle and $17 for laksa just because of two BIG prawns?

Looks like these are the bunch of hawkers settiing a new benchmark for others food courts to follow. Will you pay?

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

Laksa with no hum is not Laksa...

if they sell with those large hum ==> $50 Laksa ??

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

Are the prices listed? If yes, then it is willing seller willing buyer scenario. Premium prices listed, expectation determines satisfaction.

Two opposite sides to this that are more unethical:

~ extremely cheap prices, but way under-delivered. Example prawn noodle for $1, but no prawn at all. Misinformed buyer.
~ no pricing, aka 4 prawns for $80 at Newton. Mistake on buyer's part, but seller preying on lack of information cannot be deemed ethical.

In these two cases, it is not a willing buyer willing seller situation. A mis-informed or un-informed buyer cannot be considered willing. That's no different to conmen using magic stones or needle in the egg stories.....

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

Whether price is reasonable or not depends on many factors.
Is the Hum flesh, or the chao sng type?
Young hum or old hum?
Which country did the hum come from? Japan, Europe and China all got different quality.
Where is the hum served? If high class place like tian an men restaurant, confirm more expensive.

But one problem with hum is that sometimes can't tell quality from looking at the shell. Must open up then know. By then it could be too late sometimes.....

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

KNN all humsters talk.

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

even hawkers think sporeans are growing richer? exorbitant and somewhat outrageous pricing..go chomp chomp better...no chicken rice or laska worth that much...come on pple...wake up and see the real world..all being smoked by the fastest expanding growth in 2010...

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

The store's rading is AAA , not A si boh?
Hence more exp...

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

My question is also this, "CAN YOU NOT EAT THE LAKSA THAT COST $17, IF YOU THINK IT IS EXORBITANT?"

Can or not? Or someone forced you to eat?

I agree...no one can force anyone to buy or eat...but this is an indication of inflation run wild...if u start seeing abv 100k COEs, unaffordable and unreasonable COV for HDBs, private housing hitting over a million for suburban areas, $1.70 for Ya Kun kopi and now this....u know something is not right when wages are not even catching up...prob neg real wage growth or flat this year...in short, mkt is not rational at all...inflation needs to be kept in check...best of all...our currency is supposed to be appreciating aga other major currencies and we do not seem to be able to curb rising imported prices cos i aint feeling anything except buying stuff online from US!

Its just the begininng ....... with liquidity from foreign sources - comes inflation. Ask an old guy today if he would pay $4 for laksa and he would tell you he used to pay $1 back then.

Welcome 1st world pricings starting with food, transport & real estate - the 3 fundamental stuff...............

OT - Cost of labour is reserved for foreigners - local boss still like to hire ang mo to work for them. But frankly the ang mos are much better qualified especially if they had ran global projects before - received CVs from them. Locals no fight. Its like a top kampong student who went to RI - tough.

Re: $17 for Laksa - anyone?

I agree it is inflationary somewhat in general terms, but with regards to food, one can still have $2.50 4-dish chap chai png at Golden Shoe, or prata at 80 cents. It is about choices.
