This being such an un-bias forum, which would you choose? 130i or A3 2.0T Quattro?
:)

U r wrong, it is a biased view here...130 is the answer.

Is there A3 Quattro 2ltr Turbo? or did u mean S3 ?

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

Oh yes is a very un-biased forum.

Ok heres my biased answer......130i.

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

tuff choice... both sold here dont have electric seats... both almost same price at 135kish? high price crap options... duh

if u like to mod, no doubt a3quatro 2.0 tsi thats sold here, one in-house audi mtm chip n u got close to 300bhp... 130 is NA so limited upside... easy decider after u consider this

a3quatro2.0tsi gets my vote

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

I think the joy of driving a Bimmer vs an Audi is quite different. I have test-driven the new A4 1.8T and loved all the gadgetry but the ride is only so-so. I must say Audi has improved over the years but they are still playing catch-up to BMW and Merc.

If staying different from the crowd is what you want, go for the Audi but if you want that big SMILE on your face every time you start the engine, go for the Bimmer. I know because it still does that to me. :)

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

Is the Audi 2.0T still using the same engine as the one on the Audi TT Coupe 2.0T. If yes, then frankly I dont like the way the car drives. I tested it about 1.5 tears ago when people tell me thats one of teh best TC car around(before the 335i). KNN during the test drive, I find the Turbo comes in on 2 ways..."0" or "all".

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

Thank you for all the totally un-bias views from a totally 'non-BMW only' forum :) . Maybe I am consciously trying to influence the outcome.

Here are my personal thoughts; the A3 2.0T Quattro is the non S3 and is now available in S-tronic (DSG in Audi speak) and is at a price that make sense (non-list, that is). Mods are of course aplenty per the usual GTi possibilities. Finally with Quattro, it will be able to put all the additional horses to good use. It is, however, clinical. It does not stir the emotional like this other small issue of a 130i but let me come to that later. The A3 is of course much better equipped and more practical with usable rear seats albeit still a 3 door.

Now the 130i; I have since driven it on a couple of occasions. Once sandwiched between 2 drives in the 325i. The 130i along RR road was just wonderfully balanced. It brought back memories of a 318is in 1990 along the same road. The engine and the drivetrain in this little package and the engine note (note: as opposed to exhaust note alone!) was exhilarating. Suddenly, all logic and sense of practicality was just thrown out of the window. Passengers will just have to suffer for my joy.

So here i am humbly asking for more totally unbias views before I make a totally un-bias and well informed decision. Bring it on.

Good week all.

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

if the A3 Quattro with all the options is the same price as the 130i...I will pick the 130i over it...

unless its going for less...

how much less...hmm...for me...5-8k at least to even consider the A3 Quattro...

before this I was deciding between 2 dslr...the Canon 50D and Nikon D90...the 50D was the 'superior' dslr...but there was a premium at about 300usd more... then there was a sale for the D90 going for 400usd lesser...took the D90...

so yeap...

i will take the 130i over the A3 if they cost the same...to me the BMW 130i is not only superior for the drive...brand...but build...yes i had the privilege of observing both Audi and BMW factories...BMW for moi...its a different culture altogether the history and management of these 2 premium automakers...

like the comparison between the Lexus IS-F and BMW ///M3 in Top Gear...

i will say...the Audi does many things right...but the BMW does everything right...

BMW FTW~~~

unless you telling moi about a Mercedes 'equal' as well :p

I m glad it didnt come with electric seats coz that added alot of weight but that's just me..

Good enough tho that the car comes with M sport seats that hug quite well.

I need louder exos to hear the blipping...

Jack, one question on the 130i, what car category does it fall under with regards to insurance?

I looked through the insurance certificate and it doesnt say...
But I think it's under "wanna-be" category like E46Monster pointed out.

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

I tested the 130i a couple of weeks back, and i didnt like it very much.
First off, i personally dislike the front design of the car. (The rear is fine).
Many people have told me that the 130 is an awesome little car, it has plently of punch, and handles well.
To my surprise, i found the car to be sluggish. I kept asking the SE if the test car was in fact the 130i. To be honest, i found the 325 to be a MUCH better drive. There was a noticeable amount of body roll.
Without even comparing it to the Audi A3 Quattro, i find the Golf GTi to be a MUCH better car then the 130i, despite the fact that the 130i is RWD.

Just my personal opinion: Go for the A3. Its a much better looking car, and IMO drives much better! :shakemyb:

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

without considering the driving experience.... A3 gets my vote... the fittings inside the cabin is so much nicer and better than the 130i or for that matter, the 1 or 3 series!

with the driving experience put into the decision, i think the A3 quattro is still a much nicer car to drive... it handles itself well.

Now, with maintenance of the car put in the equation, i will go for the bimmer.... Audi needs to tune down its servicing cost..etc...etc.... i remember back 6 years ago, i took my A3 to change the battery, oil change and 2 brakepad.... set me back 1.5k! i thot it was a rip off!

Re: 130i or A3 Quattro

With flame guns pointing in my direction:biggun: ; I have to humbly declare that I eventually bought the A3 :)
