The ALPINA B4 Gran Coupe: Luxury Meets Performance

BMW may have decided not to launch an M4 Gran Coupe, but ALPINA has a great alternative in the form of the B4 Gran Coupe. Launched last year, the B4 Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter S58 engine that delivers 495 horsepower and 730 Nm of torque. Recently, Sport Auto’s Christian Gebhardt took the B4 Gran Coupe for a hot lap of the Nürburgring, and the results are impressive.

The B4 Gran Coupe completed the lap in 7 minutes and 52.11 seconds. While it is not as fast as an M3 or M4, it is still a respectable time. For comparison, the M4 Competition in rear-wheel-drive mode completed the lap in 7:30.79, and the xDrive model finished in 7:28.57. Other BMW models that posted similar times include the Z4 M40i (7:55.41) and the M2 Competition with a time of 7:52.36.

It’s worth noting that ALPINA’s are geared more towards luxury than outright performance. People who buy ALPINAs are less likely to take them to the race track, but that doesn’t mean they’re slow. With nearly 500 hp and over 700 Nm, the B4 Gran Coupe can reach 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 187 mph.

BMW is set to unveil the M3 CS, a more track-focused version of the 3 Series and 4 Series, soon. The limited-run super sedan will have M4 CSL-matching power and weigh slightly less than the M3 Competition xDrive. The B4 Gran Coupe is a great alternative for those who want the luxury and performance in a five-door liftback.
