BMW M Division: Set to Launch a Special Model?

In 2022, the BMW M division will mark its 50th anniversary. Most avid fans are looking forward to and are excited about what the high-performance sub-brand might bring. Launched in 1972, the Motorsport division has grown into one of the most widely known and appreciated in the business. At the same time, it’s hard to overlook its half-a-century milestone. So it comes as no surprise that BMW is preparing a couple of special models for 2022. Moreover, a new report seems to confirm the rumors.

BMW M Division: Set to Launch a Special Model?

According to Carbuzz, BMW filed a new trademark for the ’50 Jahre BMW M’ with the German authority. In this case, no one else besides the German brand can use the phrase in any combination. This is the most obvious hint at the possibility of seeing a special car wearing this phrase on it next year. And through this filing, inside reporters got a glimpse of how the badge will look like. The trademark three-color stripes from BMW M Division being present in the picture only strengthens the odds.

However, the big question remains unanswered. What will this limited edition model bring to the table, and what car will get it? In the past, special editions were offered on a few models. In 2014, BMW M5 launched with a special ’30 Jahre BMW M5′ model to celebrate its 30 years. This model was made available with only 300 units.

Moving forward to 2016, BMW M3 also had its special edition. It’s too early to say which model will get it. But, looking at it, it seems like the decent chances of getting the special edition might be the M3 and M5.

It’s also safe to say that “Jahre” models come with a special combination of colors both on the outside and inside. And most often than not, they come built on top of the best versions available, like the Competition. However, its engine and performance remain stock, so don’t expect them to outperform ‘regular’ models. Nevertheless, there is still a chance to get special cars with interesting specs but without the ’50 Jahre BMW M’ badge.
