BMW evacuate 50 German expatriates from Japan as nuclear crisis continues

BMW allows employees to leave Japan as the government battles to cool nuclear reactors damaged by last week’s record earthquake. This is Japan’s worst disaster since World War II. Many other European automakers like Volkswagen are doing the same.  Prime Minister Naoto Kan assured the foreign companies in Japan that they are doing their best to address the challenge, but many companies have doubts if the efforts to prevent a nuclear spill would be successful.

BMW has over 750 employees in Japan. On Saturday, BMW gave its German staff the option to leave the country and 50 expatriates took the chance and went home to Germany. This is also in line with Germany’s advise to its citizens to leave Japan.
