The 7 Series Gets the World’s Most Powerful Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine

The BMW 7 Series luxury sedan sets itself out from the crowd, thanks to a wide myriad of innovations. New features include a Carbon Core body structure, BMW eDrive technology, BMW gesture control, Remote Control Parking and more. As a cherry on top, the 7 Series is now powered by the world’s most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine.

The 7 Series Gets the World’s Most Powerful Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine

Making its debut in the BMW 750d xDrive and BMW 750Ld xDrive (fuel consumption combined: 5.9 – 5.7 l/100 km [47.9 – 49.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 154 – 149 g/km) is the new engine unit – delivering 294 kW/400 hp max output and peak torque of 760 Newton metres (560 lb-ft). This engine will come as standard with intelligent all-wheel drive.

Developed along the lines of BMW’s latest generation engines, this new 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine is the strongest in its class. It is powered by a TwinPower Turbo technology which includes multi-stage turbocharging with four turbochargers and common-rail direct injection. This generates a maximum pressure in excess of 2,500 bar. This engine will definitely exceed the already exceptional power delivery, efficiency, and power of the outgoing one.

Thanks to this engine, the new BMW 750d xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h / 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. That’s a 0.3 second improvement over its predecessor. The new form of multi-stage turbocharging brings together four turbochargers, whereas the previous one only carries three.

Overall, the top-level efficiency increased by 5% and average fuel consumption is lowered by 11%. The new BMW 750d xDrive and new BMW 750Ld xDrive log in a combined fuel consumption of between 5.9 and 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (47.9 – 49.6 mpg imp). CO2 emissions are 154–149 grams per kilometre based on the EU test cycle.

This diesel engine is a masterful work of engineering and it gives more reasons for the 7 Series to be the best in its class.
