[Video] BMW X3 M Competes with AMG GLC 63 and Jeep Trackhawk

Although this is arguable, most people believe that SUVs are a cooler choice than minivans. There are a ton of high-performance versions to entice even more buyers. That’s because there is an avid hunger among them for anything with a little additional ground clearance. The X3, X4, X5 and X6 are all available in full-fat M variants from BMW. Also, the XM, which goes on sale in 2023, will add a fifth.

Two more quick and potent SUVs have been put up against the smallest of the bunch. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S Coupe have V8 engines. However, the X3 M Competition has two fewer cylinders than its rivals. AWD and automatic transmissions are standard on all three. But, only one of them is significantly more powerful than the others.

As one would expect, we’re referring to the American SUV. Its 6.2-litre supercharged engine produces an astounding 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque (875 Nm). The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine in Affalterbach’s flagship GLC generates 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Meanwhile, the X3 M Competition in Urban Green has an inline-six engine that produces 503 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque (600 Nm).

The American beast crosses the scales at close to 5,400 pounds. Meanwhile, the two high-performance German SUVs weigh slightly less than 4,600 pounds each. The Trackhawk was unbeatable in the two drag races despite its added tonnage. As the X3 M Competition and AMG GLC 63 S Coupe downshifted more quickly and delivered the power significantly sooner, the situation changed in the ensuing rolling races from 32 mph (50 km/h). Both battles were won by the latter.

We’d contend that the BMW X3 M was the most attractive, but the Trackhawk had the finest engine sounds. Remember that the Hellcat engine in Stellantis will also be retiring, and the V8 in the next GLC 63 will be replaced with a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid. The inline-six (and V8), on the other hand, will remain in the BMW lineup at least until 2030, according to the M division.
