[Video] The latest BMW M5 CS vs Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye

Just a few months ago, the M2 CS was the media darling in the luxury sedan segment, but now the latest BMW M5 CS has taken that title. With a whopping 627 horsepower, the M5 CS is much bigger and more powerful. Its unwavering power and incredible agility inspire admiration wherever it goes. But it’s not the only high-performance sedan on the market. The Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye has the most impressive internal combustion engine. Today, Throttle House finds out which of these high-end cars is the most powerful.

This test is about two opposing philosophies. When it comes to acceleration, both the M5 CS and the Hellcat Redeye are monster sedans that can put Apollo 11 to shame. The M5 CS is for both lateral and longitudinal performance. Its track-inspired handling is as amazing on twisty roads as it is on a straight line. On the other hand, the Charger Hellcat Redeye is designed to give its occupants a good scare on straightaways.

But first, let us take a look at the technical specs. The twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine in the M5 CS produces 627 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers make the Hellcat smile, as its 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine makes an incredible 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. Its 2.7-litre supercharged engine is more powerful than BMW’s four-cylinder engine. So the only question is which vehicle is more fun to drive.

The new BMW M5 CS is the fastest car to come off the line, beating the Hellcat hands down. It’s one of the most impressive launch cars on the road, as it has all-wheel drive and insane launch control. According to Throttle House, they can compare it to the Porsche 911 Turbo S and extraordinary praise. When the M5 CS uses its rear-wheel drive, it still beats the Hellcat, and that’s all the more amazing.

After getting the Hellcat out of the way in a straight line, they took both cars out on the track. This was to determine which car was more fun to drive, not just which was faster. When the results came in, both hosts were amazed that the latest BMW M5 CS beat the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye with a lap time of 1.10 seconds versus 1.14 seconds.
