Check The 2022 BMW M4 xDrive Lap at The ‘Ring

To see if the xDrive-equipped car is actually faster, they returned to the infamous Green Hell. In August 2021, a BMW M4 Competition was driven around the Nurburgring in a time of 7 mins and 30.79 sec by the German magazine Sport Auto. To level the playing field, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres were fitted to both vehicles.

Christian Gebhardt, a competent driver for Sport Auto, has completed many laps of the Nordschleife in recent years. To improve his previous lap time, he drove the AWD M4 instead of the RWD type. It worked; the packed coupe finished the lap in 7 minutes and 28.57 seconds. That means he shaved 2.22 seconds off his time. For reference, we have included a link to his performance last year.

In heavy-duty GTS guise, the M4 Competition xDrive was able to match the performance of the previous generation M4. The limited-edition water-injected coupe took 7 minutes and 28 seconds to complete a lap of the Nurburgring in October 2015. BMW directly determined the lap time.

By May, we should expect a significant improvement in lap time for the M4 Coupe Sport Lightweight, as it will be more than 100 kilogrammes lighter. The S58 engines have a maximum output of 503 hp, which means BMW M engineers are likely to increase that figure to at least 503. At Sport Auto, Christian Gebhardt at the wheel of an M5 CS has already completed the ring lap in 7 minutes and 29.57 seconds. The experienced driver needs an ALPINA B3 time of 7:53.26 seconds and an M2 CS time of 7:42.99 seconds. Other notable BMW lap times include those of the M8 Competition (7:32.79) and the M5 Competition (7:35.90).
