BMW M3 G80 Races Against Ferrari SF90 Stradale

The BMW M3 G80 and Ferrari SF90 Stradale are far from direct rivals. Given their significant price gap and distinct vehicle categories, one as a performance luxury sedan and the other as a mid-engined supercar, it seems unlikely for them to compete. However, Carwow has defied expectations by organizing an exhilarating drag race between these two extraordinary machines.

The BMW M3 xDrive variant was chosen for this battle to level the playing field. The xDrive version achieves a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds, almost half a second faster than its rear-wheel-drive counterpart. This unique M3 xDrive has been extensively modified by British tuner Tom Wrigley Performance. The outcome is a remarkable power increase. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine now generating an astounding 750 hp and 900 Nm (662 lb-ft) of torque.

Despite the BMW M3 xDrive’s substantial upgrades, it pales compared to the Ferrari SF90 Stradale’s performance. Equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine and three electric motors, the SF90 delivers 1,000 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Although the torque figures seem lower, the SF90 benefits from instantaneous torque delivery thanks to its electric motors. The Ferrari is significantly lighter despite its intricate plug-in hybrid powertrain.

As expected, the BMW M3 lost all three drag races, even though it initially had a quicker start in the first race. However, it managed to keep up with the Ferrari SF90 for a while, which is an accomplishment. The rolling races had similar results due to the SF90’s responsive transmission. The lighter Ferrari convincingly won the brake test from 100 mph, securing its triumph over the M3 in all races.
