A closer look at the new G80 BMW M3 Competition

Different results come out when driving a sports car on either the track or on the road. Some are brilliant on tracks but fall apart on roads. While some vehicles cannot make it fun playing around on tracks. Chris Harris tested the new BMW G80 M3 Competition on the routes and the road. And, it seems like he was impressed deeply. The more time he spends on the M3, the more the M3 reveals itself when driven on roads.

The new BMW M3 Competition is a mighty machine when it releases its full potential. “There is nothing you can throw at this chassis at road speeds that remotely fazes it,” says Chris. Its chassis is fascinatingly capable and balance, along with its razor-sharp front-end. It also has a powertrain as effective as there is in the industry. The BMW M3 is undeniably the best in the segment for a driver’s car and potentially even better than its competitors.

However, there are some issues when taking the M3 to roads. What makes it less fun is its automatic gearbox. Yet, its engine and chassis outdo the powertrain on tracks as it removes the drama it brings on roads. The M3 Competition does not sound so well. Overall, the BMW M3 Competition feels more of a tuned M340i.

According to Harris, there are some areas of the new M3 that would be better if they were replaced with older M3 bits. For instance, consider integrating a dual-clutch will be a great improvement in fun than its standard eight-speed auto.

“But the reality is this – the new M3 is a more capable car than the one it replaces, but it is not as exciting and to my eyes looks nothing like as good,” says Chris. “But, there is an estate and, let us face it, it will still be a great thing to drive every day.” The new BMW G80 M3 Competition does have its drawbacks but overall is an incredible performance machine.
