[VIDEO] BMW 545e Shows Outstanding Performance on Autobahn

Several people consider that the BMW 545e xDrive could just be one of the most ideal options in the lineup. In terms of performance, it’s a fast and powerful car sitting right behind the M550i in the range. Thanks to the combination of combustion engine and electric motor with in-line six-cylinder architecture, which delivers outstanding performance. With more than 400 hp and instant torque, it’s hard to call it slow.

Although it was built to be a plug-in hybrid car, not everyone is into it as it consumes more fuel than a ‘regular’ BMW 540I would have. It is possible if you don’t charge it daily and use it in electric mode often. At the end of the day, the batteries’ extra weight and electric motor will weigh in. Nonetheless, if you regularly juice the car, that dead weight will come to life.

One of these 5-series hybrid models was taken for a sprint by AutoTopNL on an unrestricted stretch of motorway. According to BMW, the 545e has a total output of 394 hp and 600 Nm of torque. Thanks to its all-wheel drive and excellent equipment, it also reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds.

The numbers in the video, however, are much better. Although the road temperature was relatively low, the 0-100 km/h trip took only 4.46 seconds. Furthermore, the 0-200 km/h run took 17 seconds (and the 100-200 km/h took 12.54 seconds) while the 1/4 mile took 12.52 seconds. These are amazing numbers overall, and it is interesting to watch the car reaches its top speed and feels as if it is driving against an invisible wall.
