[Video] BMW 340i xDrive vs Ford Mustang GT

People are still trying to figure out what the BMW 340i is really capable of since it has not been out in the market for a long time. It is more expensive than its predecessor, the 335i, but it has a new engine, an additional 20 horsepower, and more torque. Can the BMW 340i xDrive beat the Ford Mustang GT on the race track?

In this video, Motorsport Magazine really pushed the 326 horsepower 3-liter straight six engine to the limit. The lap time that they got on the track for the BMW 340i xDrive model was faster than the Ford Mustang GT and even the the Audi S1. This was very surprising since the 3 Series doesn’t really compete in the segments both cars are on.

More surprisingly, the 3 Series was only a bit slower than the Renault Megane RS Trophy 275 which once held the record for being the fastest FWD car on the Nurburgring. If you’re not yet convinced, the BMW 340i xDrive was also only 0.28 seconds slower than the legendary BMW 1M Coupe.

These numbers just goes to show that the BMW 340i xDrive is a very powerful car that is more mature than we think it is. The great thing is, it is not even the fastest 3 Series you can buy from BMW today. The title holder is the BMW 335d xDrive, a diesel powered by a twin-turbo 3-liter engine delivering 313 horsepower and no less than 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.
