[VIDEO] The Ultimate Test of BMW i4 against Tesla Model

To compare the all-new BMW i4 to its main competitor, the Tesla Model 3, TV host and Formula E host Nicki Shields joins the Electrifying team. For an accurate head-to-head comparison, she joined Ginny Buckley, a British journalist, radio and television personality.

They are going through some of the specifications first. The pair opted for the BMW i4 eDrive40, the i4 family’s rear-wheel drive variation, instead of the top-of-the-line i4 M50. The BMW i4 eDrive40 and i4 M50 share the same battery pack. Despite their differences in pricing, power, and motor count. They have the same battery capacity of 83.9 kWh and a net capacity of 81.5 kWh. With its single rear-mounted electric motor, the less powerful BMW i4 40 makes 335 horsepower.

In just ten minutes, the BMW i4 40 extends its range by 102 miles as both cars feature a maximum charging speed of 200 kW. According to BMW, when fitted with 18-inch wheels, it ranges 301 miles and 282 miles when equipped with 19-inch wheels. At 5.7 seconds, it can sprint from 0 to 62 mph.

Thanks to dual motors and all-wheel drive, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range offers a significant performance advantage over the BMW i4 eDrive40. According to the EPA, the 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range (AWD) with 18-inch wheels sprints up to 358 miles. The EPA range will be reduced to 334 miles due to its 19-inch wheels. In addition, it just takes 4.2 seconds for a run from 0 to 62 mph.

The pricing is somewhat unusual, although Tesla’s performance appears to be good. If you’re looking for both cars’ differences from each other, watch their video for answers.
