The Media Tour of the All-new BMW i4 visits Washington

BMW first unveiled the all-new BMW i4 to the media in Los Angeles. However, last week, the BMW i4 visited Washington to continue its media tour. Washington media will test out some of the i4’s advanced technology features. To further promote the all-electric car, BMW has taken some images of it in the East Coast streets. The vehicle in the photos is the entry-level BMW i4 eDrive40. This entry-level will be the electric equivalent of the BMW M440i. On the other hand, with its powerful performance, the BMW i4 M50 will play the M4 Gran Coupe role.

Housing a single, rear-mounted electric motor, the BMW i4 eDrive40 produces 335 horsepower and 317 Nm of torque. From zero to sixty miles per hour, it can run in just 5.7 seconds with a range of up to 300 miles. On the other hand, the top model BMW i4 M50 generates an outstanding 536 horsepower and 586 Nm of torque. Therefore, this top model is electrified and tuned by the M Division, making it the most potent 4 Series. It takes 3.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph with a maximum range of around 235 miles.

A SPORT Boost function is also present on the i4 M50. It boosts the system’s combined driving output by 67 hp to 536 hp over 10 seconds. With this feature, it increases the i4 M50’s torque by 48 Nm resulting in 586 Nm at the same time. An M-specific soundtrack plays when there is an increased burst of acceleration.

Both models include an 81.5 kWh net-energy battery pack. Comprising of four modules, the i4 has 72 cells each and three 12-cell modules in its high-voltage battery. With a DC fast charger, the i4 can charge up to 200 kW. The BMW i4 40 can recharge in ten minutes up to 102 miles of range. However, the i4 M50 only obtains 87 miles of range at the same time. It will take an eight-hour charging time if you use a Level 2 home charger at 11 kW.

In the first quarter of 2022, BMW plans to launch the all-new BMW i4 in the United States with a starting MSRP of $65,900 for i4 M50 and $55,400 for the BMW i4 eDrive40. In addition, it has a travel fee of $995. If you’re interested, you may still place an order through BMW.
