396 HP BMW i4 xDrive40 Debuts in U.S. with 307-Mile Range

BMW introduces a fresh addition to its electric Gran Coupe family for the U.S. – the 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40. This marks the second i4 model in the U.S. featuring all-wheel drive. Sitting a notch higher is the M Performance i4 M50 variant. The M50 boasts twin electric motors. Together, they churn out a potent 443 lb-ft of torque and 396 horsepower. Harnessing such power, the all-electric i4 xDrive40 achieves 0-60 mph in a swift 4.9 seconds.

Powering the i4 xDrive40 is a lithium-ion battery with a net usable energy content of 80.7 kWh. It supports DC fast charging at rates peaking at 205 kW. The expected range varies with wheel size: 282 miles for optional 19-inch wheels and 307 miles for standard 18-inch aerodynamic wheels. BMW AG’s preliminary tests following EPA’s guidelines are the basis for these range predictions.

Electric vehicle enthusiasts will find this an irresistible offer. Until now, only the pricier i4 M50, costing $68,700, boasted an xDrive system. The 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40, however, begins at $61,600, plus $995 for destination and handling. Expect this more accessible all-wheel-drive electric model to hit US roads in the third quarter of 2023.

While BMW hasn’t disclosed any colour options or extra features for the i4 xDrive40 yet, we can expect exciting new additions. Stay tuned for further updates on this dynamic model.
